Discover the art and story of indigo dyeing from masters & create 8 masterpieces
Tucked in the quiet hills of Chiang Dao, indigo isn’t just a colour - it’s an ancient craft and a way of living with nature. At Hui’s studio, you’ll spend the day learning from a close-knit community of indigo artisans. Hui spent many years in Japan, taking courses and honing her skills in garment-making and dyeing techniques, before returning to Thailand with a dream to live gently and stay close to the land. Today, she blends Japanese indigo methods with northern Thai traditions, preserving this age-old craft with the support of local women artisans. You'll pick fresh leaves from the garden, stir your own dye vat, and learn Hui’s secret blend of techniques that you won't find anywhere else. Craft eight pieces to take home - from bandanas, shawls, fisherman pants & more! But this experience isn’t just about dyeing - it’s about slowing down, working with your hands, and rediscovering what it means to live gently with nature. You'll learn to dye each piece slowly, with care and intention, using only what nature provides. No chemicals, no shortcuts - just patience in the process of nature. Even your private rooms are decorated with hand-dyed indigo textiles! When you're not dyeing, you'll enjoy homemade Thai breakfasts and lunches, freshly cooked with local ingredients (vegan options available). In the evening, you’re free to wander to a nearby local eatery - all part of the laid-back pace here. What to ExpectMake your own indigo dye - pick the leaves, stir the vat, dip the clothLearn Hui’s signature techniques - a blend of Japanese & Thai secrets you won’t find elsewhereCraft 8 pieces to take home : bandanas, shawls, t-shirts, fisherman pants & moreConnect with local women artisans. Hui is the heart of a quiet studio tucked away in the foothills of northern Thailand. After spending over a decade in Japan, she returned home with more than just skills. She came back with a dream to live gently and stay close to the land. She began growing indigo with her own hands and invited local women, mothers, elders, and artisans to join her. Together, they slowly dye each piece with care and intention, using only what nature provides. No chemicals, no shortcuts, just patience and trust in the beauty that unfolds over time. For Hui, indigo is more than a color. It is a way of life, a symbol of patience, roots, and quiet transformation. In this little space they have created, community and tradition are not only preserved but deeply cherished. It is a place where everything grows slowly and meaningfully, just as it should.
