Bring to life a traditional Lanna hairpin, rich with meaning and blessing.
Get your hands creative and your spirit inspired! In just 2 hours, you’ll bring to life a Dok Mai Wai — the charming Lanna flower hairpin designed to move with you and bring good luck. In Lanna culture, long hair is sacred, believed to hold your kwan — your 32 souls. Adorning your hair with metal flowers is a meaningful ritual, offering protection and good fortune. Today, this beautiful tradition lives on through the skilled hands of Mae Kru Somjit Inthaya, one of the last masters from Puak Tam, a neighborhood once famed for this craft. In this intimate 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn to shape brass sheets into elegant flowers that gently sway with every move — just like the original hairpins used in traditional dance rituals. Whether you’re a beginner or simply curious, Mae Kru Somjit’s gentle guidance makes it easy to create your own wearable piece of Lanna history.Join us in preserving this fading art form, connect with Chiang Mai’s rich heritage, and take home a handcrafted treasure full of meaning and grace. What to ExpectJoin a 2-hour workshop guided by local folk craft master Mae Kru Somjit Inthaya. Meet your host
Achariyar and Araya Rojanapirom are a brother-sister duo whose work is deeply inspired by their childhood in a traditional Thai home. With both parents as architects, they grew up surrounded by thoughtful design and handmade details—especially Thai textiles, which their mum collected for over 30 years. Their passion for craft and culture now guides every project they take on, from restoring reclaimed teak buildings to curating community-led workshops and exhibitions. They collaborate closely with local artisans, not just to showcase their work but to help preserve traditional skills. Their approach reflects a quiet, consistent commitment to nurturing Thai heritage, creating spaces and experiences that are warm, welcoming, and respectful of people, culture, and the planet.
