Make your own flower hairpin, a beautiful piece of Thai tradition that's said to bring you good luck and fortune!Long hair is sacred in Lanna culture, and adorning your hair with flowers is an offering to your 32 souls (“kwan”), for good luck and protection! Today, this tradition is kept alive through the skilled hands of Mae Kru Somjit Inthaya, one of the last grandmasters of this fading art.Under her expert and gentle guidance, you'll learn to shape brass sheets into elegant flowers that gently sway with your movements, just like the original hairpins (Dok Mai Wai) used in traditional dance rituals. We think it's so cool that you get to make your own wearable piece of Lanna history.About the SpaceThis space that this workshop is held at is also incredibly beautiful and meaningful. It's located in Chiang Mai’s Old City, with lots of natural light, surrounded by courtyards, art exhibitions, and a quiet museum. Their aim is that through architecture, workshops, exhibitions, residency programs, and events, this space serves to empower local artisans and keep Thai traditions alive. Their passion for craft and culture now guides every project they take on, from restoring reclaimed teak buildings to curating community-led workshops and exhibitions. They collaborate closely with local artisans, not just to showcase their work but to help preserve traditional skills.
