Step into Fancy's home to cook family recipes passed down through generations
Some of the best recipes are the ones passed down from generation to generation. This cooking class in Lijiang is exactly that.Step into Fancy's home kitchen and learn the family recipes she grew up cooking with her mother. Raised in a family of home cooks, Fancy spent years perfecting Yunnan cuisine before working as a tour guide for 18 years. She eventually returned to her roots, creating this experience to share Yunnan's food culture in a more personal way — through local markets, family stories, and home cooking.Together, you'll shop for fresh seasonal ingredients at one of Lijiang's oldest markets and get a glimpse into everyday life. Then, head back to her traditional home kitchen, where she'll teach you how to prepare three classic Yunnan dishes:savoury chicken saladrice noodle soupblack rice and mango dessertOnce everything is ready, gather around the table in her beautiful courtyard to enjoy the meal you've cooked together. The best family recipes aren't just about the food — they're about the stories, traditions, and people who keep them alive.

Meet your host

She grew up around her mum’s cooking, and that shaped the way she shares Yunnan with guests today. After struggling to find authentic, affordable local food, she began recreating the dishes she missed in her own kitchen. Now, she introduces travellers to Yunnan cuisine through a morning market walk in Lijiang, where she explains unfamiliar herbs, mushrooms and seasonal produce before cooking together. What makes her hosting feel personal is how she connects food with daily life and culture. She often visits the market in traditional Naxi dress, sharing the meaning behind it and why she wants to keep these traditions visible for the next generation.
