Discover Selakan’s macro paradise with a Sipadan dive day
Sipadan may be Semporna's biggest draw, but some of its most rewarding dives lie elsewhere. This 4D3N dive stay combines the best of both worlds: three days discovering the hidden reefs and island life of Selakan Island in Semporna, followed by a full day diving Sipadan's legendary walls alongside turtles, reef sharks and schooling barracuda.Founded by a passionate macro diver who wanted to share a different side of Semporna, the lodge is now a favourite among underwater photographers and marine life enthusiasts. Around Selakan, expect colourful nudibranchs, frogfish, shrimps, turtles, and vibrant coral reefs — with plenty of time to appreciate the smaller creatures that often steal the show. What makes this experience special is the variety. Spend your days exploring Selakan’s quieter reefs, where marine life is hidden in every corner, then head out for a full day of diving at Sipadan, where you may encounter bigger species such as reef sharks, turtles, barracudas, and schools of fish.Beyond the diving, this experience is rooted in the local community. Many of the dive instructors and boat crew are from Selakan Island, while local aunties prepare home-cooked meals for guests. Staying here feels less like a resort stay and more like spending a few days with the people who call these waters home. With four days on the island, you’ll enjoy nine dives in total — six around Selakan’s reefs, and three dives at Sipadan. With small dive groups capped at one divemaster to three divers, each dive is unhurried, giving you more time to search for marine life, take photos, or simply enjoy the underwater world.Stay in a simple overwater bungalow with wide sea views, relax between dives, and soak in the peaceful rhythm of island life. If time allows, explore Selakan Village or take a short hike up Selakan Hill for sweeping views of the island and surrounding waters. What to ExpectJoin-in 4D3N dive stay on Selakan Island, inside Tun Sakaran Marine ParkReturn boat transfers from Semporna Tourist Jetty3 nights in a simple overwater room with open-air design and wide sea views9 guided boat dives: 6 dives around Selakan Island, 2 dives at Sipadan, and 1 dive at Mabul IslandSmall dive groups with 1 divemaster to 3 diversPlenty of free time to relax, explore the island, and soak in the slower pace of island life between divesMeals included: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 3 dinnersFull dive equipment includedGood to KnowNon-Malaysians will need to cover an extra Marine Park fee of RM20 per person, per day.Sipadan diving is subject to permit availability and weather conditions.Meet at 2:00 PM at Semporna Tourist Jetty on Day 1.Return to Semporna is around 3:30 PM–4:30 PM on Day 4.

Meet your host

Amin came to Semporna as a photographer, but the islands and the people he met gave him a different direction. He went on to build a sea lodge with a simple idea: tourism should create real opportunities for the community that calls these islands home. Today, most of his team are local young people, trained as dive guides, snorkel guides and hospitality staff, creating jobs that let visitors experience Semporna through local knowledge and stories. His sea lodge is also one of the best bases for exploring Semporna's underwater world. Beyond the famous reefs, Amin is passionate about introducing guests to the region's incredible macro diving, where tiny, often overlooked marine creatures become the stars of the dive. Whether you're here to snorkel vibrant coral gardens, hunt for rare macro life with experienced guides, or island hop to places like Bohey Dulang, the experience is intentionally small-scale, relaxed and deeply connected to the surrounding marine environment.
