Really nice cruise and activities. Balcony rooms do not deserve the paid premium for it. I would recommend standard rooms. Food is really good and maybe there is too much! Difficult to eat everything in the plates! It would be better to include in the price harbour costs, bicycles and kayak fee: this is not convenient for tourists to carry cash whereas the expenses can be anticipated when booking the trip (especially for families)

What are some less-touristed cultural spots in Vietnam worth exploring for authentic local experiences?

To delve into Vietnam's genuine culture away from tourist crowds, consider visiting Gia Lâm Village near Hanoi for traditional craft-making, the colourful market town of Cao Bằng with its ethnic minority communities, or the ancient Cham towers in Ninh Thuận Province. These locations offer rich photogenic scenery and insight into local lifestyles. Remember to visit early in the morning or late afternoon for the best natural lighting for photography, and always engage respectfully with local residents.

How can travellers best experience Vietnamese festivals and traditional rituals off the beaten path?

Many Vietnam festivals are local and less tourist-centric, such as the Spring Festival in Hoi An or the Yen Tu Festival in Quảng Ninh. To partake authentically, connect with local organisers beforehand, seek out community-led events, and respect local customs. Wear traditional attire if appropriate and bring your camera during processions and performances, ensuring you have permission to photograph participants. Attending these events provides vibrant photo opportunities and deep cultural understanding.

Which lesser-known temples or religious sites are ideal for capturing Vietnam’s spiritual essence?

Venture beyond the famous pagodas and visit the Thay Pagoda in Hanoi's suburbs, the native Cao Dai Holy See in Tay Ninh, or the Phat Diem Cathedral in Ninh Bình. These sites often see fewer visitors, offering serene atmospheres for photography and cultural immersion. Visit early to capture soft natural light, and remember to dress modestly and behave respectfully, especially during prayer times or ceremonies.

What are some hidden historical sites that provide insight into Vietnam’s rich past and are great for photography?

Explore the ancient Cham ruins at Mỹ Sơn near Hội An, the Kok Ly Village with traditional architecture in the Mekong Delta, or the ancient citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi less frequented by tourists. These sites often have intricate details and atmospheric settings perfect for nostalgic or documentary-style photography. Guided tours or local insights can enhance your understanding and offer better vantage points for photographs.

How can photographers respect local cultures while capturing colourful and authentic street scenes in Vietnam?

Approach street scenes with sensitivity: ask permission before photographing individuals or families, especially during small ceremonies or in rural areas. Look for candid moments that tell stories — colourful market stalls, traditional dress, or daily rituals. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the best lighting. Carry a lightweight camera for agility and avoid intrusive behaviour; participating respectfully and engaging with locals often results in more authentic and compelling images.
