Review Body: We booked Wendy for a weekend birding trip and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better guide.
She’s punctual every time and about 30 minutes before each outing she’d message us with a weather update, which was useful to know in case conditions weren’t great for birding. On both days she dropped us off at our lunch spot after. On the last day, knowing we had a flight to catch, she picked us up together with our luggage so we could go birding without having to double back to the hotel first.
She’s extremely knowledgeable about birds, their calls, behaviour and habitat, and very familiar with the areas and where to find specific species. Over the weekend we managed to see many birds we were hoping for, including the Brown-winged Kingfisher, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill and many others. She keeps a log of every species spotted throughout the trip, which is a great keepsake.
She’s also persistent and doesn’t give up easily. On day one we spent close to an hour searching for a Banded Kingfisher without luck, so we asked if we could try again the next day. She arranged a two-hour detour to a different location and while we didn’t manage to find it, we saw plenty of other birds along the way. Same with the Wreath Hornbill. The first sighting wasn’t great so she took us back out the next morning and we caught it perching long enough for some good shots.
For photography she’s genuinely helpful. She’ll point out the best angles, lend you binoculars, and set up her spotting scope so everyone gets a proper look. Only one of us is a photographer but she made sure the other wasn’t just standing around and taught us how to take photos through the scope with a phone, which works really well. She also pointed out snakes and other wildlife along the way.
Her food recommendations were excellent too. The lunch spot she recommended had a view of reeds and swampland right in front, so naturally there were water birds around. The food was delicious and we ended up photographing three more species just while eating.
One unexpected bonus: there’s a friendly stray dog named Road Runner who recognises Wendy’s car, follows it up the mountain and back down, and comes up to say hi when you get out. You’ll understand the name when you go birding with her.
We’d absolutely book with Wendy again. She’s patient, thorough, and genuinely passionate about what she does.

Review Body: We engaged Wendy for two half-day outings in Langkawi — one for a mangrove boat tour and another for birding — and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide.
Wendy is incredibly knowledgeable, super dedicated, and genuinely passionate about what she does. She knows the birds, their calls, behaviour and habitats, but what really stood out was her determination to make sure we had the best possible experience.
The mangrove tour was much more than just looking for birds. Wendy would ask the boatman to stop along the mangrove banks and then show us the little creatures living in the mud — including colourful fiddler crabs, with their distinctive oversized claw. She patiently explained what we were seeing and pointed out details we would otherwise have completely missed.
We even had a wonderful encounter with a colourful mudskipper putting on its mating display — another unexpected highlight of the morning.
The highlight for me, though, was the Brown-winged Kingfisher. We were hunting for it right until the end, as I really wanted to get my lifer before leaving Langkawi. Wendy was just as determined and didn’t give up.
And when we finally found it, the kingfisher perched incredibly close. Wendy told us it was probably the closest we could get — and the resulting shot had an incredible amount of detail. It was such a good encounter that even Wendy was tempted to bring out her own camera and shoot alongside us!
Beyond her knowledge and dedication, Wendy was warm, friendly and easy to talk to. It honestly felt more like birding with a friend than being on a birdwatching tour.
If you’re looking for a birding guide in Langkawi, I’d highly recommend Wendy. Knowledgeable, dedicated, patient and genuinely passionate — she goes the extra mile to make sure you get the birds and experiences you came for.
We’d definitely engage her again on our next trip!

Review Body: I had such a wonderful birding experience in Langkawi with Wendy! She was warm, friendly, and easy to talk to — it honestly felt more like birding with a friend than being on a birdwatching tour.
She was also very knowledgeable and competent at finding the birds, and thanks to her, we managed to spot the three magnificent hornbill species of Langkawi among other lifers. Her passion and patience really made the whole experience enjoyable and memorable.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxed, fun, and rewarding birding trip in Langkawi!

Review Body: I had two five-hour private tours with Wendy to see the birds of Langkawi in late Jan/early Feb. For both we started off from my hotel at 7 am for the best conditions. Wendy’s local knowledge and keen spotting abilities made all the difference as we saw a lot of birds including the three Hornbill species. I highly recommend Wendy to anyone who wants a great birding experience from a thoughtful, knowledgeable guide who is so passionate about nature and the environment.

Review Body: We had a great birdwatching tour with Wendy! You can tell that she is genuinely passionate about the nature and wildlife of Langkawi. We learnt so much not just about birds but about the nature of the island in general, as well as where to have the best Indian food! We saw many different birds in several habitats and while it was all interesting the highlight for me was the great hornbills that we got to observe on Gunung Raya. A truly unforgettable experience!

Review Body: I had a wonderful bird-watching experience with Wendy even-though it wasn’t the suitable weather (rain) for birdwatching but at least we managed to spot few species. The tour was well-organized, enjoyable. I recommended for anyone interested in nature and bird photography to contact Wendy .

Review Body: Incredible experience, thanks to Wendy’s expert knowledge including exactly where all the fruiting trees are, we saw all 3 types of Hornbills, and many other lifers.
I’d recommend anyone visiting Langkawi to go on a birdwatching tour with Wendy. Very fair price as well.

Meet your host
Wendy’s journey into nature guiding began with a leap away from the corporate world. After years behind a desk, she took a six-month career break to explore New Zealand — hiking through the hills, watching wildlife and working on farms. That adventure eventually led her to Langkawi, where she found her calling in outdoor education before becoming a nature guide with a resort in Langkawi and later an independent licensed guide.
Today, Wendy specialises in birdwatching and nature interpretation, helping guests notice the hidden details of Langkawi’s natural world. With her sharp eye and deep knowledge, she makes nature feel approachable and fascinating — whether you’re a keen birder or simply curious to discover a different side of the island.
