Cook and feast on authentic Hmong food in a local home with amazing paddy views!
This isn’t your typical cooking class. It feels more like being welcomed into a family home - a peek into the real Sapa, not the one made for tourists, but into the everyday lives of the Black Hmong hill tribe community. You’ll cook and share a meal with a local family while soaking in stunning views of the rice fields. You’ll be welcomed by a lovely couple who live in a quiet village just outside Sapa town. Their home sits on a small hill overlooking the terraces — simple, yet so stunning. Before cooking, you’ll wander through their garden to pick herbs and vegetables for the dishes. The class is super casual and hands-on, held right in their kitchen. You’ll learn to make traditional Hmong dishes like spring rolls, stir-fried vegetables, and sticky rice — food they actually eat every day (not the commercialised stuff like pho!). There’s no rush, no strict recipes, just real food, laughter, and connection. When everything’s ready, you’ll sit down together around the family table, sharing stories, food, and a few shots of homemade rice wine. It feels less like a class and more like being part of the family for a day.Add-on: If you like trekking, we'd also recommend to add on a short trek through nearby rice fields before your cooking class. You'll have a chance to see villagers at work at the paddies and soak in more of the beautiful surroundings! What to ExpectEnjoy a scenic drive through the Vietnamese countryside to Muong Hoa, a traditional Black Hmong village, by car or motorbike.Take in the views of traditional Black Hmong houses and the iconic terraced rice fields along the way.Receive a warm welcome from your host family and enjoy a cup of traditional tea.Participate in a hands-on cooking class where you'll learn to prepare authentic Black Hmong dishes.Savor the fruits of your labor and enjoy a delicious meal with your hosts, sharing stories and listening to traditional folk songs.Toast to the experience with a glass of local wine.TipsTransportation is included from your hotel in Sapa center or a nearby homestay. You will be joined by a local guide from the Black Hmong or Red Dao tribes who can offer insight into the local culture. All necessary ingredients and cooking materials are provided. One bottle of water per person is included, but additional drinks will need to be purchased separately.

Meet your host
Gio and his wife, Hoa, started welcoming guests in 2023 with a simple goal—sharing their Hmong culture in a genuine and welcoming way. Whether it’s over a home-cooked meal or guiding visitors on trekking and motorbike adventures through the stunning landscapes of Sapa, they create experiences that feel personal and memorable. Their love for hosting shines through in every interaction, making guests feel like they’re part of something special rather than just passing through.
