Very interesting and special experience! What exceeded my expectations was the mixologist taking us through the brief history of cocktails and stories of each drink we were making before guiding us through the process. It was chill, intimate and fun!

Reuben is an AMAZING host. Super knowledgeable, really warm and open to sharing his knowledge! We tried lots of interesting sakes and learnt so much about the process (I didn't know that koji was so hard to make). Learning about the complex sake making process made me a lot more appreciative of the sake that I drink. Highly recommended to any foodie (even if you don't love sake, you may after this experience!) and any one who just wants a fascinating experience in Singapore.

We did this at the end of the year with a few friends and it was so fun and informative. Rueben really knows his stuff, he's a wealth of knowledge all things sake. Plus learning about his brewing journey and establishing the first sake brewery in Singapore is also super interesting.

Cocktail Making Classes in Singapore FAQs

What should I expect from a cocktail making class in Singapore that focuses on local and craft spirits?

In Singapore, many cocktail classes highlight local and craft spirits such as Asian-inspired gins, rums, and botanical infusions. Expect to learn not only classic techniques but also innovative twists using locally sourced ingredients like pandan, lemongrass, and ginger. These classes often incorporate storytelling around Singapore's rich culinary culture, offering a truly immersive experience ideal for photography enthusiasts and travellers seeking authentic cultural insights. To capture stunning visuals, ask your instructor for tips on lighting and plating, as many venues embrace aesthetically pleasing presentation and colourful garnishes.

Are there any secret or off-the-beaten-path cocktail bars near popular tourist spots in Singapore?

Absolutely! While hotspots like Marina Bay and Clarke Quay are well-known, Singapore boasts hidden gems such as speakeasy-style bars behind unassuming facades in areas like Chinatown and Tiong Bahru. These bars often feature crafted cocktails with unique ingredients inspired by local flavours, offering fantastic opportunities for street and interior photography. Many serve signature drinks that reflect Singapore’s multicultural heritage, so be sure to chat with bartenders for behind-the-scenes stories and tips on capturing the ambience through photography.

Can I find cocktail making classes in Singapore that delve into the country’s cultural influences and history?

Yes, several specialised classes explore Singapore’s multicultural influences—Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western—through cocktail crafting. These classes often involve making drinks that incorporate traditional herbs, spices, and syrups, providing a deeper cultural context. For photographs, look for classes held in historic or colourful neighbourhoods like Little India or Kampong Glam, where the vibrant surroundings add richness to your shots. A tip is to bring a good camera with macro capabilities to capture the intricate details of your garnishes and colourful drinks that embody Singapore’s diverse heritage.

What is the best time of day to take cocktail classes in Singapore to optimise photography opportunities?

Early evening or late afternoon sessions are ideal for both gastronomic and photographic reasons. During these times, natural light is softer and warmer, enhancing the colours and textures of your cocktails. Many classes held in open-air or rooftop venues take advantage of the ‘golden hour’, which provides stunning lighting for photos. Additionally, visiting rooftop bars during sunset allows for capturing panoramic city skyline shots alongside your craft drinks. Remember to bring your camera or smartphone with portrait settings to make the most of the beautiful lighting.

Are there any eco-friendly or sustainable cocktail making experiences in Singapore suitable for environmentally conscious travellers?

Yes, Singapore now offers several sustainable cocktail classes that focus on zero waste techniques, using locally sourced and organic ingredients, and eco-friendly tools. These experiences often feature foraging tours for herbs and botanicals, teaching you how to reduce waste by using all parts of ingredients or creating homemade syrups and bitters. These classes tend to be held in eco-conscious venues with beautiful, natural surroundings—perfect for photography that highlights Singapore’s green side. A tip for photographers is to capture the natural elements and process behind sustainable mixology, adding depth and storytelling to your images.
