Why go
Go up close to a live volcano that’s actively spitting out ashes and lava everyday?! Yes please! For anyone who loves outdoors and nature, going to Merapi is just a really cool thing to do as the volcano is located in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by lush forests.
What to do or see here
You can't climb Merapi at the moment (it's closed by the government), but you can still take a jeep to explore the Merapi area and enjoy the views!
Best Time to Go
- Go during dry season from April to October
- Very importantly, go in the mornings if you want views of the volcano!
Who is it for?
Anyone who loves adventure and nature. You don't need to be fit to go to Merapi on a jeep, so it's suitable for all ages and fitness levels really.
Top Tips
- Wear active clothes, and try to wear trousers as you'll likely want to climb on the jeep to take pics
- If you're taking the jeep into water (your choice!), you should wear waterproof shoes or aqua shoes
- Merapi is an active volcano and though its last eruption in 2023 didn't result in fatalities, there is always a risk in visiting
