Meet your host
Rik first came to Mount Tambora as an archaeologist, hoping to uncover the hidden treasures of the lost kingdom of Tambora. During his excavation work, he became captivated by the beauty and mystery of the volcano. He was fascinated by the stories of the long-lost volcano that caused the greatest eruption in history. When Rik realized that no one was hiking Mount Tambora, he decided to start Visit Tambora to share his passion for the volcano with others. He now leads guided hikes to the summit, where he shares his knowledge of the volcano's history and geology. He also offers cultural tours of the surrounding villages, where guests can learn about the local people and their way of life.
