Learn Balinese crafts with local women & support social change
If you want to learn Balinese traditions and understand deeper social issues in Bali, this experience is a really meaningful way to do so.You’re not visiting a staged workshop or a polished “cultural village.” You’ll spend time inside a grassroots women’s centre where Balinese women come to learn skills, earn income, and support one another. Instead of just watching, you’ll create alongside them, with a choice of activities like batik painting with hot wax, herbal tea making, natural soap, simple Balinese cooking, sewing, or recycled paper.What makes this especially meaningful is the setting. This is a real grassroots space built to help women gain confidence and economic independence while keeping Balinese traditions alive. You’ll meet the founder, hear how the centre began, and get a better sense of how women here balance family, work, and cultural expectations.The experience ends with a home-cooked Balinese meal shared with the community. Meet your host
Wira began his work in 2015 with a clear goal: helping rural communities grow while giving local youth more chances to learn useful skills. After seeing how tourism often missed village life in Bali, he started building community-based experiences with local leaders in 2016. By 2019, this grew into Five Pillar Experiences, connecting travelers with everyday traditions, local stories, and village life in a respectful way. In 2020, he opened a learning center in North Bali to support education and cultural preservation. Wira also helps run Mai Kubu Space, supports a village waste initiative with bamboo bins, and plants one mangrove tree for every guest who joins an experience.
