La Unua

La Unua is built by combining the best of European and traditional Phinisi boat stylings. It gives La Unua a distinctive unique look, yet the design is still familiar among traditional Indonesian Phinisi wooden boats. The liveaboard is one of the most modern and luxurious of its kind operating in the Komodo National Park area.

Amazing liveaboard on an amazing boat with an amazing crew and amazing dives. Diving around Komodo with turtles, sharks and mantas, as well as plenty of colourful small life and coral. Followed very quickly by the amazing food and service by the crew.

I spent 3N4D on the La Unua end of February. It was an amazing trip beyond all my expectations. Boat The boat itself is luxurious with only 3 cabins. The atmosphere is private and exclusive. The cabins are clean and very comfortable with ensuite bathrooms. Towels and shower gels are provided. There is plenty of space on the boat particularly on the top deck to chill out between the dives and at night to admire the stars. Service Tri speaks very good English and responded to all my queries throughout the booking process. She did an amazing coordination job. She was so kind to come back to my hotel after the trip to stamp my logbook:).The service provided by the crew was great too.I really felt privileged to be on this boat. Food Food was good. There was a variety of western and Asian food every day. Refreshments and food were provided after dives. The fried bananas served after the afternoon dives were yummy! Diving Incredible. All the dive sites were breathtaking. Mantas, turtles, a huge variety of fishes, Macro life, etc. The Komodo Marine park will blow your mind away. The highlight of our dives was a ballet of 20 mantas. We watched them for 40mins hooked on a rock against the current. Absolutely fantastic. Our guide was great too. He knew the dive sites well and briefed us before each dive. I strongly recommend you to indulge in the fantastic LaUnua experience.

I was with my 2 Korean friends, my husband and my daughter. We chartered the boat for a full day trip to Padar, Rinca, Manjarite. Pros on this boat: - clean room - well maintained - clean public area - friendly and helpful crews Negatives on this boat: - although the rooms are clean, the smell is a bit carbollic. So it makes the smell not that pleasant. To conclude, the boat is great and very recommended to be used.

How much are Komodo National Park fees?
Komodo National Park fees are complicated. They depend on: the islands visited (which is weather dependent), whether it's a weekday or a weekend, whether the guest is a foreigner or a local, and the number of people on the boat (as ranger fees are shared). This is why no two people will tell you the same number when asked about fees! The fees are also complicated by the fact that they're set by the national government and paid directly to Jakarta. So there is little visibility on changes from time to time. This is why we usually advise international guests to bring cash of between IDR 350K to IDR 460K per person per day for weekdays and between IDR 400K to IDR 520K per person per day for weekends. This is more than you need, but it avoids you ending up short of cash if the boat doesn't have too many people or the fees suddenly change!
Will I get the exact same boat in the pictures?
You'll get the same type and quality boat, but you may not get the exact same boat. There are 4 types of boat - Standard (i.e. basic), Speedboat, Deluxe and Luxury. Most of the boat operators in Komodo have a few boats that they rotate. Depending on the group size on the day, the boat operator may end up using a larger or smaller boat. The boat that they use will be of the same type and quality but may not be exactly the same boat. Also, there may be situations where the exact boat needs to be sent for servicing so the boat operator may use another boat in these cases as well.
Is the itinerary guaranteed?
The itinerary for Komodo National Park is very weather dependent, as the journey takes place out in open waters. Some days the currents are very strong, and it might not be safe to go to certain islands. We know this can be frustrating if you had your heart set on specific spots, but please be assured that the boat operators will do their very best to make sure you see the dragons and the highlights of the park - even if it's not identical to the itinerary here. A visit to Komodo is quite the adventure, so please do be prepared to embrace some level of uncertainty!
