2D1N Ethical elephant experience with no touching. Just real jungle moments 🌿
This 2D1N stay at a real elephant sanctuary isn’t just about seeing elephants – it’s about supporting them to live life on their own terms. Here, elephants roam freely in the forest, forage naturally, and return only when they want to – no riding, no bathing, and no tricks. This is one of the few truly hands-off, ethical sanctuaries in Thailand, where you can watch elephants being elephants without disturbing them.Unlike many elephant experiences near Chiang Mai that feel a bit staged, this sanctuary gives you the rare chance to hike alongside these majestic creatures in nature while learning about their rescue and the local ecosystem. It’s peaceful, eye-opening, and great for those who genuinely care about animal welfare and want to be part of something meaningful. You’ll also be contributing directly to community-led efforts like local clean-ups and education programmes – this is conscious travel at its best. This is perfect if you’re someone who wants a more local, immersive and impactful travel experience. Whether you're an animal lover, part of a couple looking to unplug, or a conscious solo traveller keen to get hands-on in the community – this is a magical way to spend two days. What to ExpectMeet elephants in one of Thailand’s most ethical sanctuaries – no riding, no bathing, completely hands-offScenic drive from Chiang Mai with a stop at a local market and waterfallHelp prepare elephant treats and watch them return from the forestRelax in nature, meet rescued cats and dogs, and enjoy a cosy dinner with the teamJoin a full-day jungle hike observing elephants in their natural habitatEnjoy a picnic lunch in the forest followed by optional community activities like gardening or irrigationGood to KnowPick-up is from Chiang Mai Old Town between 8.30–9AM; expect to return around 7–8PM on Day 2All meals are covered at the sanctuary, but you'll need to bring cash for any meals outside of BEESBoots for jungle trekking are provided (only 8 pairs, limited size availability – bring your own if possible!)Accommodation is comfortable but simple – it’s part of the charmThis is a join-in trip with a small group, making it easy to meet others who care about conscious travelTravel and accident insurance not included – please arrange your ownFacilitiesSimple shared or private bedroom accommodationCommunal dining and relaxation areas with hammocksInteraction with rescued cats and dogs onsite

Founded in 2011 by Burm Pornchai Rinkaew and Emily Rose McWilliam, BEES is an acclaimed elephant sanctuary listed on the World Animal Protection Organization's Elephant Friendly Guide. Pioneering a hands-off policy, they prioritize elephant well-being and established the BEES Elephant Foundation in 2015. Emily's commitment began in 2009 after witnessing the mistreatment of elephants in Thai tourist camps. In 2010, discussions turned into action, with Emily and her partner Burm relocating to Mae Chaem to start BEES. Burm, with a background in tourism, contributes his expertise to the project, aiming to uplift the community by teaching English. Since 2011, BEES has been a community-driven initiative, with Burm and Emily purchasing land and involving the local village in constructing accommodations. In addition to caring for elephants, BEES focuses on environmental conservation, having planted around 10,000 trees since 2012 with the help of visitors and local kids. Together, Burm and Emily's dedication creates a sanctuary that not only protects elephants but also fosters community and environmental well-being.
