What you should know

How do I get there?

From Colombo Fort train station you can take a train to Unawatuna. It'll take about 4 hours. Another option is taking a bus from the airport to Colombo bus station to switch to another bus which goes to Galle, from there it's a short 10 minute taxi or Uber drive. Of course you can take a taxi or Uber all the way there.

Do I need to go with a guide?

It is necessary to have a divemaster with you to ensure safety.

Do I need to train up?

You should be good at swimming. You do not need to have a diving background if you are intending to attain your PADI certificate here.

What's the best time to go?
The best months to visit are January, February, March, April, November, December
We recommend the above period because you would have:
  • Better chance to spot animals
  • Good weather
