Halong Bay with its beautiful karst landscape is a UNESCO site, and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It's seen by most travellers to Vietnam to be the unmissable place to visit in Vietnam. It's not a hidden gem by any means, but it's still worthwhile going if you just want a comfortable getaway in beautiful natural surroundings.

You can do 1-3 day cruises (3 days is best!) in the main bay or quieter Lan Ha & Bai Tu Long – all have similar views. Enjoy kayaking, caves, floating villages & cooking classes.

March-May is ideal with fewer crowds + cool weather (some fog). Oct-Dec is best for photos, but crowded. Skip summer's heat & rain (Jun-Aug) + local holidays (30 Apr, 1 May).

Halong Bay suits most (unless crowded attractions aren't your thing)! Families, seniors, or active travelers will like it. Cruises range from backpacker-friendly to 5-star luxury.

Halong Bay cruises are pretty samey – the only difference is route + luxury level. Head to Lan Ha + Bai Tu Long Bay for fewer crowds; Cat Ba for adventure. Avoid summer if you can!
