If you're looking for Sabah's wild side, this is it.
If you’re going to raft in Sabah, make it the one people call a bucket-list experience. This isn’t just white-water rafting. It starts with a ride on one of Borneo’s last heritage trains, winding through remote jungle, river valleys and tiny countryside villages before dropping you deep into the Padas River gorge. After arriving at Pangi Basecamp, you’ll fuel up with a hearty local breakfast by the river before gearing up for 1.5–2 hours of serious action. The Padas River is famous for its Class III–IV rapids - fast, splashy, and properly thrilling. Expect big waves, technical sections and plenty of adrenaline, all set against untouched rainforest. The rapids come one after another, making this one of the most exciting rafting runs in Malaysia. It’s physically engaging but guided by experienced professionals who’ll brief you carefully and keep things safe while the fun levels stay high.Once you’ve conquered the river, you’ll enjoy a well-earned local lunch at a sheltered riverside spot before boarding the heritage train back to Tenom - wet, tired, and grinning! What to Expect:4:00am hotel pick-up from Kota KinabaluScenic 3-hour drive to TenomRide on a historic jungle trainRiverside breakfast at Pangi Basecamp1.5–2 hours of Class III–IV raftingContinuous, high-energy rapidsLunch by the Padas RiverReturn heritage train rideBack in KK by late afternoon/eveningGood to know:What are Class 3-4 Rapids: Fast, splashy rapids with strong currents, big waves and technical drops - exciting and physically demanding.Suitable for: Best for adventurous beginners (12+) and confident rafters; not recommended for young children or those new to rafting.
