Finding rascals kite resort was just the best what could have happened to us! I travelled with my husband and child and the owner and manager Johanna welcomed us so lovely that it felt like staying at home. We actually changed our travel plans, so we could stay longer as Rascals just has it all. A nice pool, great food and people and kitesurfing.
 Also if you need help to get a trip done to wherever, Johanna is very kind and helpful!

What a lovely and breathtaking spot...
 A driver picked us up at a car parking near Colombo Airport and after a 3,5 hours ride through tiny villages and beautiful nature we arrived at a green paradies, surrounded by beautiful flowers and the smile of all the lovely people - The Rascal! Every corner of the camp is decorated with so much love by using only natural and ecological materials. The accomodations are very comfortable and cosy. For the first nights we had booked a Cabana, where no AC is installed. As the nights are still so tropically hot we asked if it would be possible to change rooms. Johanna and her team helped very quickly and asked in the neighbour resort for a room with AC as all AC rooms at The Rascals have been booked. We could change immediately. Thank you very much for this spontenous and uncomplicated solution!
 We stayed for 9 nights and enjoyed the nice and well-organised trips to the kite spots, the delicious and healthy food, the familiar atmosphere and the very, very relaxed and good mood of the staff.
 To us they stay at Rascals was a 5 star-holiday. We would totally recommend this place.

Having stayed at many kite places in Kalpityia over the years, Rascals is by far the most beautiful resort of them all. Set in a lush garden, with a refreshing pool and a nice restaurant. The staff are lovely and hospitable and I enjoyed the meals and the ambience a lot.
 The great bonus about this resort is everyday you go by boat to the kite lagoon and get to enjoy nice views, the other resorts transport you by truck which is uncomfortable and bumpy.
 This is the best place to stay in Kalpityia by far. Thanks for a great stay

 - Really good food for all meals (including packed lunch at the beach!)
 - Very friendly staff
 - Picturesque boat ride to lagoon runs twice a day free of charge
 - Clean spacious rooms (we had a cabana with outside shower which was cool)
 - Kitesurf lessons were easy to organise at short notice - use of walkie talkie radios was useful for lessons (but literally just a walkie talkie tied to the side of your helmet!)
 - Really environmentally friendly - e.g no plastic bags or straws

Things to note/ improve:

- Lack of communication on arrival - we had no idea what was happening and had to awkwardly ask staff simple things - would have been nice to have a proper greeting / intro to the resort
 - rooms are very bare - would have liked there to be at least a full length mirror and clothes rail
 - Timings are not particularly reliable for boat pickups and meal times
 - Some kitesurf equipment needs to be replaced soon and more of it needed. Some helmets were broken and we rarely had correct size. The kites were good though and had been replaced recently.
 - No hot water for showers
 - Kitesurf instructors - whilst we think it’s amazing that the instructors are employed locally and they are very good kite surfers - it can be a bit harder for beginners to learn due to language barrier
 - Kalipta Lagoon - you can’t stand up in most places which makes it much harder to learn - if you lose your board it can take upto half an hour to retrieve it and swim back to the shore!

Overall really enjoyed our stay and kitesurfing experience (January 2019) would definitely recommend this place!

Wow! We had an amazing holiday. Cosy and very clean bungalow! Good food &amp; great atmosphere! The wind is perfect enjoying a lot kite surfing and the nice pool in the evening! Great host Monday and wife! We’ll back definitely!!!!

Although we didn't stay with the Rascals (we were next door), they were so welcoming. I thoroughly recommend booking a boat trip out to Veilla island- such clean wind, could make great progress.

Breakfast consists of bread, fruit, and 1 option from a menu of various dishes - sausage and a fried egg, scrambled egg, pancakes etc. Lunch and dinner only have 2 options to choose from - a vegetarian and non-vegetarian option. What the dinner will be is written on a blackboard in the morning. Lunch tends to be local food - curries, dhal, spicy vegetables and rice and you can also order a lunch box to the kite beach. Everyone in the resort sits and eats dinner together at the same time creating a very friendly atmosphere to the place.
 Generally, all the food was very tasty and very plentiful although fussy eaters may struggle with the lack of choice. There aren't any other restaurants nearby.

- There is nowhere on site or nearby to buy cigarettes. You can hire a trishaw to pick some up for you but it would probably be easier to bring a carton from duty-free.

- This place is mosquito heaven! Both outdoor and in the rooms. There are nets over the bed, but make sure to bring lots of spray and repellent. Some other guests brought an electric mosquito racket - like a big fly swatter - which was a great idea. I will bring one next time!

Beautiful, minimalistic but tastefully designed and modern rooms (we stayed in a jungalow), well maintained tropical garden with a swimming pool and relaxation area, healthy breakfasts, fresh juices (chia bowls too!) and home cooked meals, authentic Italian espresso (yes!) are just some of the highlights. But what makes this place truly special is the Rascals Team, starting from Johanna and Mondi - very relaxed but at the same time always attentive owners - through every single one of the team members, always kind, helpful and truly friendly, with genuine smiles and big hearts. Yoga classes with Shibi - charming owner of the next door hotel - are wonderful too. Internet is a bit slow but that was a plus for me in the end as I was not able to work and stopped trying! And last, but not least, their kite instructors are very professional, I had lessons with Nalin who was 100% engaged and extremely patient, so I finally managed to stand up on the board and surf my first 300 meters! If we have a chance, will definitely be back.

Charming little buildings, spacious bar area, right on the lagoon. Throughout our week there Johanna, Mondy and the rest of the staff were courteous, attentive and lovely. It really made our non-conventional Christmas (we're from the UK) totally great.
 The main reason we chose to go here was kiting, which was cracking, so we would definitely come back for that. Special thanks to Toni for getting me up and running, and Alex for launching, landing and rescuing!
 The only con was that we went to the national park and didn't see any elephants, then did the dolphin trip and couldn't leave the lagoon due to adverse weather. Not in anyone's control, but a bit disappointing.

Good experience at the Rascal Kite resort. I have booked a 9 night stay with about a month notice. I have been suggested this place from other kitesurfers that have been there already. This is a place created by kitesurfers for Kitesurf! Rooms are nice and clean, don't forget you are in a poor country and the standard they keep there is very close to European standard. The crew is local, all good hearted guys that work hard, but remember there is not hotel and restaurant school in the country, do not expect that level of professionalism. But for all the duration of my stay, I have had no one issue. Food very genuine and fresh. The real strong point of this place is the service offshore. The kiting spot is 7 minutes boat away from the resort. The kite school provides material and professional trainer. All the lessons are supported by radio. At every stage of your progression, the instructor communicate with you. Rascal's offer a service of boats patrolling the area, if you have a problem just look around. My last day I have pushed my luck keep kiting even if the wind was dropping (come on... It was the last day) and I ended up floating in a flat water pond with no wind. I was already thinking how to reach shore when I heard the motorboat. The guys on the beach look after all their customer and they spotted me in difficulties and sent the boat.
 At the end of the day I did come here to kite and this is exactly what Rascal's delivered. A very safe enjoyable kiting experience.
 I read some written feedback of people complaining about taxi costs and other stuff. Honestly my experience was fine. I have used a taxi on arrival and the resort service on departure. The Rascal transportation was cheaper than the taxi. Everybody may have different feelings and experience, mine was very good. At the end of the day all is down to people, when I left I felt sadness, I really bonded with the other guys, the big lunch table oblige you to sit and talk with others.  This is not an hotel, this is a very nice place, built by a guy that likes to sit on the evening with people and talk about sport and stories. While doing that he gives work to many local families. So member when you drink a beer with Mondy, with the money you pay for the beer, he is supporting someone son to go school and have an education.

Good experience at the Rascal Kite resort. I have booked a 9 night stay with about a month notice. I have been suggested this place from other kitesurfers that have been there already. This is a place created by kitesurfers for Kitesurf! Rooms are nice and clean, don't forget you are in a poor country and the standard they keep there is very close to European standard. The crew is local, all good hearted guys that work hard, but remember there is not hotel and restaurant school in the country, do not expect that level of professionalism. But for all the duration of my stay, I have had no one issue. Food very genuine and fresh. The real strong point of this place is the service offshore. The kiting spot is 7 minutes boat away from the resort. The kite school provides material and professional trainer. All the lessons are supported by radio. At every stage of your progression, the instructor communicate with you. Rascal's offer a service of boats patrolling the area, if you have a problem just look around. My last day I have pushed my luck keep kiting even if the wind was dropping (come on... It was the last day) and I ended up floating in a flat water pond with no wind. I was already thinking how to reach shore when I heard the motorboat. The guys on the beach look after all their customer and they spotted me in difficulties and sent the boat.
At the end of the day I did come here to kite and this is exactly what Rascal's delivered. A very safe enjoyable kiting experience.
I read some written feedback of people complaining about taxi costs and other stuff. Honestly my experience was fine. I have used a taxi on arrival and the resort service on departure. The Rascal transportation was cheaper than the taxi. Everybody may have different feelings and experience, mine was very good. At the end of the day all is down to people, when I left I felt sadness, I really bonded with the other guys, the big lunch table oblige you to sit and talk with others. You start to share and build friendship. This is exactly what is happened.

All the options below are for IKO certification, but Rascals also offers the option of teaching kitesurfing skills, without providing the IKO certification, if you prefer. This means that you can learn more flexibly, without the constraints of the IKO curriculum.
