The most memorable Khao Sok experience with an ex-hunter guide
If you’re curious about jungles but not quite ready to sleep in one, this is the perfect way to get a proper taste of wild Thailand. Experience the jungle like never before with this unique day-to-night adventure in Khao Sok – no camping required! You'll hike to a hidden waterfall, cook dinner using bamboo over an open fire, and end the day with a magical night walk through the forest. What makes this experience really special is your guide. Your guide, Jaja, isn’t just any jungle guide. He grew up here and was trained in hunting and jungle survival by his father when he was just 9 years old. He can even smell the air and tell which animal just passed! In spite of being Khao Sok's most skilled hunter, he realised that he wanted to help conserve the animals he loved, instead of hunting them. With his love for animals and his knowledge of Khao Sok’s land, he decided to use his skills to guide people on an immersive jungle experience. He also trains other former-hunters to be eco-guides like him, so they can help conserve Khao Sok's wildlife. If you're after something more meaningful than a run-of-the-mill tour – something that truly connects you to the heart of Khao Sok – this one’s for you. This is best for curious travellers who want an authentic, hands-on jungle experience, without the crowds or rush. Whether you're into plants, wildlife, or just want to try cooking with bamboo over a bonfire, you'll love this low-key, immersive afternoon. What to ExpectStart with a scenic 3km jungle trek led by Jaja, who’ll teach you survival skills passed down through generations.Cool off with a dip at Bang Hua Rat Waterfall – it’s peaceful, refreshing, and a great reward after the hike.Join a hands-on jungle cooking session using bamboo and traditional techniques. Yes, you really cook your dinner in the wild!Enjoy a delicious feast under the fading light of the day, surrounded by nature. As night falls, head out for a guided wildlife safari to spot nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat – from glowing eyes in the dark to rare jungle residents like civets and langurs.Good to KnowBring 200 THB in cash for Khao Sok National Park’s entrance fee – not included in the tour price and subject to change.Wear lightweight but sturdy shoes for the hike, and drink plenty of water. This is a private trip, so it'll just be your group with Jaja – no big tour groups here.Pick-up is free if you're staying within 10km of Khao Sok National Park (small additional fee for further locations).Don’t worry about equipment – head torches and water are included.Follow your guide's lead and stick to “Leave No Trace” principles to keep Khao Sok beautiful. The 3km jungle hike is beginner-friendly but does involve some uneven terrain, so a moderate level of mobility is helpful. There are breaks along the way and plenty of chances to cool off and take it slow, especially at the waterfalls. It’s more about the experience than rushing to the finish line!

Meet your host
Jaja was born and raised in Khao Sok, where the jungle was his childhood playground. Taught by his father from a young age, he learned how to navigate, survive, and understand the land. As he got older, he took an interest in learning English, working as a waiter to practice with travelers. Eventually, he realized his knowledge of the jungle could be put to better use—guiding visitors through the national park instead of hunting. Now, with nearly two decades of experience, Jaja not only leads unforgettable jungle adventures but also mentors new guides, helping former hunters find a new path. Dedicated to his hometown, he’s working to create more opportunities in eco-tourism while protecting the beauty of Khao Sok.
