Review Body: For me, the experience was unforgettable. Seeing signs of wildlife with my own eyes, learning from the guides and rangers, and being immersed in a forest so different from the world I know at home made the importance of protecting these places feel all the more real. I also really appreciated learning from the people who dedicate their time and knowledge to this work, and understanding how our presence as volunteers from all walks of life can contribute significantly to practical conservation efforts. I would genuinely recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn more about wildlife conservation and find meaningful ways to get involved. Sometimes, the things we care about can feel so far away from us, but experiences like this remind us that there are ways we can help.

Review Body: You knew from the presentation on the first evening that you were in the hands of people who knew what they were talking about – people committed to protecting this very important part of the rainforest. The trek on our second day confirmed how knowledgeable they are – all very inspiring. The trip ended with meeting some of the local Bateq men who are part of the forest restoration team and helping them to plant some of the saplings grown in MyCC’s own nursery. A really worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

Review Body: An amazing adventure! My trek led by Alex and Adi, a member of the Bateq tribe, in March 2026 was a unique experience. Learning how tigers are endangered by poachers and the protection work MyCC does, including taking volunteers out to trek in the forest, was only capped by actually seeing a tiger on a camera trap walking the very route we were on! It’s great to know that as a volunteer walker I have helped support that protection work.

Meet your host

Founded by Tekul and Alex, this is a grass-roots conservation team working in the River Yu Ecological Corridor, the last link between Peninsular Malaysia’s two largest forests. Tekul is from the Bateq community and grew up in these forests; he now runs a nursery for wild fruit trees used in habitat restoration. Alex has spent the past decade living and working with local communities in the landscape. Together, they bring volunteers, indigenous communities and rangers into the same effort. So far, they’ve planted over 27,500 trees and support 30 community rangers protecting more than 35,000 hectares of forest from poaching and illegal logging.
