Learn a 700-year-old craft in Ninh Binh
Most people come to Ninh Binh for the landscapes. But this region is also home to one of Vietnam’s oldest craft traditions — embroidery that has been practised here for over 700 years. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn Vietnamese embroidery with a local artisan in Văn Lâm village — one of the country’s oldest embroidery villages. Set in the Tam Coc countryside, it still feels like a glimpse into a bygone era, where a few artisans continue this craft by hand. You’ll learn simple stitches, work with colourful threads, and create your own piece to take home. It’s slow, calming, and a nice break from the usual sightseeing. The craft is slowly fading as younger generations move on. By taking part, you’re helping to support the artisans and keep this tradition going. What to ExpectLearn traditional stitches used for centuriesGuided by a local artisan in a small groupTake home your own handmade pieceHear stories behind the craftTipsThe workshop lasts approximately 2 hours. No prior embroidery experience is necessaryBring some extra cash for tips or for food/drinks

Tam Coc Workshops was founded in 2023 as a way to share the rich cultural traditions of Tam Coc through hands-on craft and culinary experiences. Located in the stunning Buffalo Cave, a UNESCO-listed area, the workshops offer a special blend of nature and tradition. Run by skilled local artisans and chefs, guests can try everything from fabric mosaic making to grilling fish in lotus leaves. The setting itself is breathtaking, with limestone mountains, rice fields, and a river weaving through the landscape. Visitors can also connect with local farmers through activities like buffalo riding and rice planting. It’s all about experiencing the true essence of rural Vietnam in a natural, welcoming environment.
