Authentic Sapa trek with locals, homestays & real cultural vibes
This 3-day trek through the hidden valleys of Sapa is nothing like your typical tourist trail. Led by local Hmong guides, you'll hike at your own pace through remote villages, staying in traditional homes and sharing meals with your hosts. No crowded buses or rigid itineraries — just genuine cultural exchange, jaw-dropping scenery and warm-hearted people inviting you into their world. Unlike the standard Sapa day tours that stick to well-trodden paths, this experience dives deeper — literally and culturally. You'll spend one night in a peaceful homestay with panoramic rice terrace views, and another in a traditional Buffalo house way off the beaten track. It’s perfect for travellers who want to connect with local life, support community-led tourism, and explore at their own rhythm. This is best suited for curious travellers who prefer local gems over Instagram hotspots, value a slower and more meaningful kind of travel, and enjoy nature without needing luxury. Whether you're up for an easy wander or a proper leg-stretch, the trek can be tailored to match your fitness level. What to ExpectCustomised treks guided by locals — choose easier routes or more challenging hikesStay two nights in authentic local homes: one at Zizi Homestay with stunning mountain views, and one in a remote Buffalo houseDine with local families and experience Hmong hospitality and home-cooked mealsExplore quiet, non-touristy villages and immerse in Hmong and Red Dao cultureEnd your trek with a scenic taxi ride back to Sapa or the homestayGood to KnowPick-up is in Sapa town — you’ll need to arrange transport there on your ownThe trek is tailored to you, but do expect some uneven terrain — typical of the regionAll meals listed in the itinerary are included, but extra snacks and drinks are on youNo need to pack sleeping bags — bedding is provided at the homestaysThis is a join-in experience with small groups, so it’s a great way to meet likeminded travellersBring cash for any entrance fees, snacks or souvenirs — card payments aren’t common in the villagesTerrain varies depending on your chosen path, but in general, expect dirt trails, steps, and gentle hills. Meet your host
Zizi and Lilly started their homestay in 2016, creating a welcoming place for travellers while also supporting their local community. Zizi’s family once relied on rice farming, but tourism helped improve their lives, allowing them to upgrade from bamboo to wooden houses. Their journey hasn’t been easy—during COVID, they lost both their business and home to a fire. But through determination and the support of visitors, they rebuilt step by step. Today, their homestay is one of the most loved in Sapa. They hire local guides and run their place as a social enterprise, giving others in the community a chance at a better life.
