See Singapore’s disappearing kelongs and fish farms by boat
This is a side of Singapore most people never see. Long before the container terminals and financial district, our coastline was dotted with kelongs—wooden fishing structures built on stilts, around which entire communities and livelihoods grew.On this three-hour speedboat journey, you’ll travel through Singapore’s eastern waters to see some of the kelongs that remain. Along the way, your guide will share how traditional fishing worked, why so few kelongs are left and how our coastline and fish-farming industry have changed.You’ll see old-school kelongs and modern fish farms on the same route, bringing Singapore’s fishing past and present into view side by side.
