See Singapore’s disappearing kelongs and fish farms by boat
If you want to see a side of Singapore most people never do, this 3-hour boat trip takes you out to some of the country’s disappearing kelongs — traditional wooden fish farms built on stilts over the sea. Unlike a standard harbour cruise or seafood dinner, you’ll see old-school kelongs and modern fish farms on the same route, so Singapore’s fishing past and present come into focus side by side. It’s a great fit for curious travellers, locals and families who want more than skyline views.
The route follows Singapore’s eastern waters by speedboat, passing islands, sea life and parts of the mainland that look completely different from the city. Along the way, your guide explains how kelongs once worked, why so few remain, and how the coastline and fish-farming industry have changed over time.
You’ll also stop at a floating restaurant for a more relaxed look at life on the water. Sit out on deck with the sea breeze, play old-school games like Carrom or Jenga, or, if you choose the sunset session, add dinner and stay a little longer.
