Meet rescued bees and taste honeys from different landscapes
Clarence became an accidental beekeeper when he found a colony in his home and chose to call a bee rescuer instead of pest control. Since then, he has rescued more than five million bees across Singapore—and even helped change how local councils respond to bee colonies. At his urban farm and nature sanctuary at Old Bukit Timah Fire Station, you’ll see how soil, plants, bees and food are all part of one living system. Feed soil critters, learn how compost helps plants thrive, then suit up to meet rescued honeybees up close. You’ll end with a tasting of honeys from around Asia, where you can actually taste how different landscapes and plants shape their flavour. Then forage for fresh herbs and make your own garden-infused cocktail or mocktail. It’s hands-on, sensory and lots of fun—but it also leaves you with a bigger appreciation of just how much our food and ecosystems depend on these tiny creatures.A question to take with you: If every jar of honey carries the story of the ecosystem that produced it, what does our food system taste like?Impact Week 2026 Learning JourneyThis experience has been specially curated for Impact Week 2026 and will take place only on 12 September. These Learning Journeys take you beyond the surface to better understand people, places and issues in Singapore, and hopefully inspire us to protect what matters. Why This Experience MattersMuch of the food we eat depends on pollinators like bees, yet their habitats are disappearing rapidly. In Singapore, bee colonies are still often treated as pests and destroyed rather than safely relocated. The bees you’ll meet here were rescued from extermination. By joining this experience, you’re supporting Clarence’s work to relocate colonies, protect local bee populations and help more people understand why bees matter to our food security. What to ExpectExplore an urban farm and see how soil, plants, bees and food are connectedFeed soil critters and learn how organic compost is madeSuit up and meet rescued honeybeesTaste honeys from around Asia and discover how landscapes shape their flavourForage for herbs and mix a garden-infused cocktail or mocktailLearn how bee rescue contributes to a healthier urban ecosystemGood to KnowPhotos taken by your hosts are includedSuitable for children aged three and abovePets are welcomePlease wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoesYou’ll need to climb stairs to explore parts of the farmAs you’ll be meeting live bees, this experience is not suitable for anyone with a severe bee-sting allergy
