Meet your host
Sheila Yang is the thoughtful mind behind The Amanita Collective, a family of brands (Amanita Kombucha, Apothecary & The Ferment Station). Her fermentation journey began in 2016 through deep personal exploration. In 2019, I had the opportunity to present my creations at Wonderfruit Festival in Thailand, where I collaborated with local Northern Thai farmers to source herbs and ingredients. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of Amanita Kombucha, a brand that emerged out of necessity and has since grown into a dedicated and evolving practice. Each kombucha she crafts tells a story, grounded in plant medicine and ancestral traditions, with every herb thoughtfully selected for its unique medicinal properties. Since 2019, she’s been crafting kombucha and ferments that reflect her deep respect for plants, culture, and community. Her journey began with personal exploration and grew into something truly unique after a meaningful collaboration with farmers in Northern Thailand. Sheila’s sessions are hands-on and rooted in real experience—she brings together herbal wisdom, fermentation know-how, and stories from her own path. Before formally establishing The Amanita Collective in late 2024, Sheila spent eight years pioneering speech-to-text interpretation in Singapore, working closely with the Deaf community. From 2020 to 2024, she co-designed and led a national training programme that helped participants develop shorthand techniques to improve typing speed and interpretation fluency. Sheila has conducted over 12 public mentorship and interpreter training sessions, reaching more than 150 individuals, with about 20 percent mentored directly under my guidance. This chapter of my journey shaped my commitment to inclusive education, intentional design, and authentic community engagement. It also gave her the opportunity to grow as a leader, trainer, and mentor.
Sheila’s work is all about connection to the Earth—whether it’s with nature, food, or each other—and you’ll feel that in everything she does.
