Darulaman Sanctuary
At the foothills of Gunung Raya lies a 226-acre rainforest sanctuary built around a simple idea: that nature should be experienced, not replaced. Instead of turning the land into another development, the area was restored with the help of environmental experts, keeping it largely vehicle-free and designed for low-impact exploration.
The vision was to protect one of Langkawi’s remaining rainforest landscapes while allowing people to connect with it responsibly. Today, the team on the ground continues that mission — restoring native trees, protecting wildlife such as hornbills and the Sunda colugo, and finding ways for tourism and conservation to exist side by side.
