Sam from Xishuangbanna
Born and raised in Xishuangbanna’s Dai community, he has been guiding travellers here since 2004. With over 20 years on the ground, he knows the tea mountains, rainforest trails and minority villages in a way few guides do. He also speaks English, Chinese, Dai, Thai and Lao, which helps him connect easily with people from different backgrounds.
Before guiding full-time, he worked as a translator and research assistant on biodiversity and conservation projects, including work around Naban River Nature Reserve and at two botanical gardens. That background brings extra depth to his walks, from local plant life to the everyday traditions of the region.
