Gammara Phinisi
The story of Gammara started in 2018. Restu Maya Sari, a local designer, was perched on the stern of a traditional wooden phinisi boat on a trip to the Komodo Islands, and reflecting on how a few days had changed how she saw the world. As she reflected on the heartwarming people she had met, their soul-enriching local culture, and the enchanting mystic of the Komodo dragons, a dream stirred within her. After that trip, she started working on sketches of a boat that would honour Indonesia’s age-old seafaring ways and promote the marine diversity of the archipelago to the rest of the world. That dream, hundreds of sketches, and a chance encounter with a master boat-builder all came together to create the beautiful Gammara boat that you see today.
