The Sticks KKB
The Sticks is built by a retired civil engineer with sustainability in mind. The kampung-inspired retreat is perfect for the environmentally-conscious - it was constructed with minimal clearing of the forest, powered by solar energy, and even the water comes from a remote spring. Currently, The Sticks is run by the engineer's wife alongside a number of locals who are all passionate and friendly. The unique Tedoks (a crossover between a tent and a Pondok), situated 300m above sea level, are tastefully furnished and airy - making this off-grid retreat perfect for friends and families looking for a getaway, or even yoga retreats. Trekking activities of varying difficulty levels are also available for adventurous guests.

We just had a wonderful 3 nights at The Sticks https://thesticks.my/ My husband informed them that I’m vegan and the owner, Michelle, had fully prepared everything before arrival and took the time to check the menu with me. I had toast with jam and muesli, soya milk, mango and dragon fruit for breakfast. She apologised about the limited availability of fruit but I thought the fruits were delicious. The lunches were different each day but my highlights were a mushroom tempura, this aubergine tomato dish that was so savoury and delicious, a tofu mushroom and vegetable dish that had a beautiful vegetable stock, and crispy tofu (there was much more), the evening meals were a vegan steam boat with a beautiful vegan stock, we had different sorts of mushrooms, different varieties of tofu, different greens, rice noodles, toasted garlic, fresh green chilli sauce and a chilli soy sauce. It was delicious. The other evening meal was a vegan BBQ, corn on the cob, vegetable skewers, BBQ sweet potatoe, pumpkin, a delicious fried rice, fries and the delicious green chilli sauce. Tea was crispy banana fritters served with coconut cream and maple syrup. Anyway, just wanted to let members in the group know that I had a positive experience and it’s great to travel and have great vegans food. The place its self is a short distance from KL and a wonderful break. We enjoyed the many butterflies, the room (Opera), the river and letting the children play with the toys as we played Scrabble.

The quarantine within the quarantine, crushed our expectations on every level. This is peak off-grid glamping IMO. idyllically set within an untouched, tranquil forest reserve traversed by a stream of cascading falls - the quietude, seclusion and detox from our daily devices did us a world of good. Nature therapy at its rawest validly purged out every iota of stress accrued in the city scapes of KL. Possibly the soundest sleep I’ve had in recent memory. Grateful there’s a lil slice of heaven we could come back to every now and then within a short drive, but all things considered, I do believe the cost is a little on the heftier for those on a tighter budget. Small price to pay I Guess. 100% would recommend for those keen on an unreserved immersion in nature away from the norms of daily living, especially couples & small groups so as to reap the maximum out of the off gridding experience.

The Sticks is a special place in the rainforest. This is our 3rd visit and every time its been an energizing and refreshing experience.
The Riverside Tendok is our choice as its perfect for a couple and has its own private access to the river. Tip : When you go down the steps, walk to the right and you'll find a lovely sandy bank where you can swim in.
What makes this place special compared to the other rainforest retreats is the hospitality and home cooked food. Michelle and Rubin are such lovely hosts who make us feel so welcome every time. And the food! From steamboat to bbq dinner to home cooked lunches served in tiffin carriers, we really feel like its home away from home.
Do note that there is no reception and no internet, which makes it a perfect place for those of us tired of the concrete jungle to connect with nature.

We booked three huts and headed to the jungle. 4 adults and 5 kids. The place is beautifully built and very well maintained. All of us felt safe and well shielded from the creatures of the jungles. We experienced no more mozzie issues than in the city. We ordered full board and were well taken care of nice staff and very engaged owners. We all enjoyed the jungle trek and the white river rafting was a great experience. Warmly recommended the Sticks deserve to be fully booked !

A good weekend stay at ‘The Sticks’. We booked the ‘Nest’ tenduk by the river. May not be the choice for everyone as the rapids is pretty loud. Michelle and Rubin are great host. Friendly staff too. Michelle even arranged a muhibbah ‘lou sang’ for all the guest as it’s Chinese New Year. Breakfast, lunch, tea treats and dinners were all yummy. We went night exploring nearby for fireflies at the riverside and at the suspension bridge. Saw some huge spider webs. My children learned some species of plants there. We also went jungle trekking for an hour. Didn’t have any issues with mozzies the whole time there. Not to be missed is the white water rafting (by arrangement), and tubing by the river.
