Review Body: My husband and I just spent two unforgettable days (as part of our honeymoon) with the team at Kulu Safari. From the moment we stepped into the vehicle upon arrival, we were treated to the best of everything - service, food (maybe some of the best we had during our entire trip in Sri Lanka), accommodations, knowledge, driving. It is obvious that the ownership cares about the quality of everything they are providing, because you could feel it in every aspect of the adventure. The camping accommodations were comfortable and clean, and they went above and beyond to create unique experiences for us on-site, including dining on the top of a tree under the stars. The game drives were also best in class. It was obvious that this outfit has the respect of the park staff and the other safaris, and they truly care about conservation, in addition to creating a memorable experience for their guests. They know their stuff, especially our naturalist guide, Kelum, who is so well educated and could spot animals that you’d never seen because they blended in with the trees. One thing that we loved is that, although they do this everyday, they are genuinely excited to spot the animals. There were two times when we were about to leave the park and they got a call about a leopard spotting. They could’ve taken the easy way out and never said a word, but they asked us if we wanted to extend the drive to try and spot the leopard. We also went to a newer park for one drive, at Kelum’s suggestion, where animals are not as used to the vehicles. This was awesome because we got to see a Tusk elephant (only 5% of all elephants in Sri Lanka have tusks) who clearly wasn’t happy we were encroaching on his territory! Our success in seeing animals was fantastic, which is a lot of luck, but also the staff knowing where to look. We saw five leopards (which included two cubs that had never been seen before), a handful of elephants, including an elephant herd, the large Tusk elephant, a sloth bear, lots of peacocks and spotted deer, huge crocodiles, mongoose, water buffalo, many monkeys, and a lot of beautiful birds (to name a few of the main animals). We will definitely be recommending Kulu to family and friends who visit Sri Lanka, and if we return to this beautiful country ourselves, we will definitely use them again. Great spot for a couples trip or a family adventure.

Review Body: For one night I stayed at Kulu Safari's with six others. This stay was simply said amazing! We went there on a friday afternoon and could drop off our stuff before going on a safari. The tents we where sleeping in where for 4 persons, with 3 friends it was still spacious. The facilities in the tents where amazing and everything you need. Nice beds, a real good shower and a good airconditioning. Simply said amazing. The location of the tents where also great when you sat outside you could only see nature. In the afternoon we did the safari in Yala National Park, we've already visited the park last week through another organisation. But you could clearly see the difference. The staff of Kulu Safari's really have a great knowledge on the park and the animals. This safari also started on another gate then the main gate. That already made a huge difference, the landscape was way better and we did not experienced any crowdness. We even saw a Leopard, so amazing! After the safari we got some time to refresh before the amazing dinner. The food was super good and the ambience stunning. After dinner the staff had some surprises for us, since they heard us talking about it during the day. What these surprises where am I not going to tell, you really need to experience that yourself! That the staff arranged this for is gives the great example of the high skills of them. Customer experience and satisfaction is one of their main importance and they do everything for you. I found it simply said amazing, never experienced this high amoint of hospitality. The night in the tent was also great, with the animal sounds on the background I slept very well. As said before the beds where super comfortable. In the morning we woke up early to see the sunrise from the treehouse, super nice! Afterwards we went for an amazing hike, up to a nearby mountain. Sometimes it was a tough climb, but the view was amazing. When back at the camp a refreshment under the great shower was welcome. Then we had the breakfast, which I think was the best breakfast I ever had in my life. Ohh and we also did the kayaking tour on the nearby lake. The nature and animals made this tour great. There are a lot of activities to do with Kulu Safari's, it is more then just going on a safari! So I can really recommend going there. Loved it!

Review Body: My wife and I spent two weeks in this wonderful country. It wasn’t enough! We’re already planning our next visit. Brilliant beaches with so few people on them, great food and lovely locals. This time we concentrated on the South of the island. Next time we aim to do the central highlands and the North. Distances are pretty small and. While we did take one internal flight, you can travel about by private car with driver cheaply. Don’t drive yourself! The tuk-tuks fly about everywhere and I lost count of the number of near-misses. The safari. Where to start!? We arrived a bit late for the first day. I had asked if they could save some lunch for us and were greeted with an amazing meal. This theme continued through our trip. Huge meals, terrific quality and always served with a smile. Each dish was named and, if necessary, explained. Breakfasts were served after the morning game drive but, by then, we’d already had a morning tea or coffee to wake to, plus a snack in the middle of the drive. On our first night (we stayed for 2 which felt about right), we were the only guests. The staff pushed the boat out (literally) for the evening meal. We were escorted to a raft on the lake, lit by Aladdin’s lamps, and pushed out with our meal. It was absolutely amazing. We had a thunder and lightning storm in the background and were surrounded by jungle noise with the occasional firefly. It will live long in the memory – thanks guys. The wildlife was excellent, both animals and birds. We saw 2 leopards, one very very close. They are truly magnificent. The only slight criticism would be that we did seem to ‘do the rounds’ of a few water holes rather than touring wider. While I appreciate that these were the best places to potentially see leopards, e had already seen 2 by then and would have preferred to see more of the park. We could get used to the refreshing towels and G&Ts afterwards! On the whole, thoroughly recommended.

Review Body: A most enjoyable experience in large measure due to friendly welcome by all the staff. Ramani, the Manager, was always checking that everyone was well looked after. The accommodation in a tent with an outside seating area, was well kitted out with aircon, WiFi, safe and a bathroom with a toilet, washbasin and very efficient shower. A very welcome addition after a hot day out on safari. They provide you with a very powerful rechargeable torch which is very useful for walking through the trees and seeing where the tree roots are on your way to dinner so you arrive safely without tripping up! For the drives, they have a Toyota V8 Land Cruiser which is a very powerful. There are two safari drives daily, you are woken at 5.00 a.m, given a cup of tea and you leave at 5.30a.m for a half hour drive to the park. Manju, a Naturalist and Ajith were our two guides and they tried extremely hard to find a leopard, waiting by a recent kill but to no avail. However we saw lots of different wonderful birds, kite, bee eaters, Indian rollers, spotted deer, monkeys, mongoose, jackals, wild boar, kingfishers, peacocks, jungle fowl (Sri Lankan National bird), star tortoise (200 years old), elephants, water buffaloes, painted stork, pelican and the black headed oriole which I nicknamed the banana bird due to its bright yellow colour! In the afternoon we went to another park called Lunugamwehera which only allows two vehicles so it was a totally different calm experience. Halfway through the drive we were able to dismount and sit by the lake watching the wildlife sipping a drink, a very memorable experience. On return from our second morning drive in the road we saw a large male elephant (about 55 years old) called Raja and the locals were feeding him wood apples and water melon.

Review Body: We have now completed a wonderful 3 week tour of Sri Lanka and all has been amazing. But the stand out was our 2 night stay at Kulu Safaris in Yala National Park. Firstly the service was amazing with all our needs catered for. The accomodation was lovely in raised tent structures with an all luxury fit out. The food.....well wonderfully prepared, and a lot of it. 3 meals a day, I believe cooked by one of our lady guides - Ramani, a wonderful host - plus snacks etc. Each meal served in a different setting under the trees or canvas - beautifully presented. Our safari guide and one of the camp organisers, Manjula, was very knowledgeable and was a Naturist. He spoke beautiful English and went out of his way to make sure we got the most out of our stay. He took amazing photographs for us on all of our 4 safaris and went out of his way to ensure we saw as many animals as possible. We were fortunate that on each safari we saw many animals including a mating Leopard couple simply lying on the track. An amazing and rare sight. Each safari better than the last. On return from each safari we were greeted with an amazing meal either breakfast or dinner with wine, beer etc. Lunch was served in between and other activities were arranged. The whole stay was well above our expectations and although we did this at the beginning of our trip. - it has remained the highlight of the holiday and we have seen some amazing things here in Sri Lanka since then. Kulu Safaris are not cheap, but are worth every penny. - truly a wonderful experience that we will never forget. Thank you again Kulu and the hospitable and wonderful staff.

There are also many different types of beautiful birds that are wonderful to see. Our guide Susantha was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about all animals and birds. He was relentless in finding leopards and we were rewarded many times. He knew where to go and he was very patient, listening and looking for every clue. The food was great. Fresh local ingredients were used for every meal. The chef, Patham, was fantastic. The calamari, curries, and seafood was delicious. The salads were the best we have ever had on a safari. Our final dinner consisted of an awesome grilled bbq dinner. We had grilled fish, chicken, beef and pork sausages along with delicious salads. The chocolate cake for desert was exceptional. This was a big drinking crowd but we managed to get our fill and Raminy was very patient with us. Raminy, our hostess and her team were great. They were always available with whatever you might need and anticipated your every need. One day it started to rain. As we left our tents to go to lunch we found that an umbrella had been delivered to us just in time. As they say, it is the little things. We have been on several safaris in Africa and India and would absolutely highly recommend Kulu Safaris.

Review Body: Not familiar with the outdoor lifestyle, I was a bit worried when our next destination calls for a 3 night stay in a tent! The road to Kulu Safari was bumpy and dusty. But once we arrived and was shown our tent, I was wonderfully surprised at how beautiful the tent was. The bathroom was even more impressive. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a beautiful shower room with nice wooden frames. The Kulu Safari Camp was not just outfitted with beautiful tents, the place is beautiful. They even have a tree house overlooking a beautiful lake. Relaxing on the tree house during sunset welcomes you to the bright orange reddish scenery that envelops you with a feeling of serenity. In addition to their safaris, they also offer a kayak activity. I have no experience kayaking, but the experience was like a boat safari. The staff on site were very friendly, helpful, and encouraging. In addition to a perfect location, the staff were always polite, considerate, and attentive. They did everything from greeters, to rangers, to servers during meals. The meals were average, but the service they provided exceeded the quality of their meals so much that one didn't really care too much about the meals. They were generous on the beverages available and they catered to all interests. I would rate the team effort of the Kulu Safari camp 5 stars. I would also like to extend my thank you to them and hope they will keep up their standard of service in years to come.

Review Body: We have just returned from a 12 day holiday in Sri Lanka and the highlight was without doubt our 2 night stay at Kulu Safaris Before booking we had done a lot of research about the different types of Safari on offer and Kulu Safaris seemed to stand out. So although we had high expectations nothing could have prepared us far the experiences that we had with Manju and his staff over two wonderful days The Accommodations, the Food ,the Staff the Location and the Environment were just unbelievable.It was certainly the experience of a lifetime for my wife and myself but for my 11 year old daughter it was something that I think will stay with her forever We went out on 4 safaris and saw a multitude of wildlife.The highlight of course was the leopards.We were fortunate enough to see leopards twice and what magnificent animals they are and afterwards you were left with a feeling of awe and privilege that for just a small moment in time you were able to enter and enjoy the world of these beautiful animals My family and I left Kulu Safari with a deep appreciation of how much Manju and all the staff love and want to protect not only the leopards but all the animals in the park and to keep them safe for future generations I really hope we will be able to return one day

Review Body: We were invited by Kulu safari’s to stay with our research group at the accommodation and do a safari. It was amazing. The staff arranges everything you want and they do so much more than expected. We arrived at the site and were welcomed with a cold towel and coconut drinks. Then we were guided to the tents, which look really good. Everything needed was there. Then our day full of surprises began. We did the safari in the Yala national park, it was our second one. But this safari was way better than the first one. The staff have very good knowledge on the animals that live in the park. We saw almost everything the park has to offer, including leopards! Then when we left the park, we were surprised by a nighsafari. We saw again everything the surroundings have to offer! When back at the tents, we saw a big dinner table in front of our tents. Very romantic and the food was great! However, the surprises were not over, they took us on a float in the lake to see the stars. The next day the staff took us to see the sunrise from the tree house and took us on a morning hike up the mountain. In short, the service of this place is a 10+. I would reccommend this place to everyone. The options of safari’s and other activities is unlimited.

Review Body: Our family of 4, including 2 kids aged 9 and 6, had a wonderful 2-night stay at Kulu safaris. All staff were very knowledgeable and beyond friendly. Our guide Manju and driver Ajit were great. Since block 1 was closed, we enjoyed mostly block 5 of the park, but Manju also included a great cultural experience to a temple with amazing views. This was all discussed with us and we went through the options of every drive together. The trucks are high quality and we could see the difference versus some of the other cars in the park, some of them not even being 4WD. Ours could literally go off the beaten tracks and this resulted in some impressive sightings of nature. In between the safaris (one in the morning and one in the evening every day) we enjoyed the view (wow) at the treehouse, went for a kayak trip, or just read a book in front of our tent. The meals were Sri Lankan and lovely, but they catered for the kids by serving non-spicy options and sausages instead. We stayed out of season and didn't see leopards, but saw loads of other animals and loved it. We are planning to go back already! This didn't feel like a camp site stay, this was a real experience!

Review Body: Brilliant 3 night stay.We were wonderfully looked after the food was good and varied, with choice of location and style of eating. Our tent comfortable clean and spacious, the location relaxing. The staff, guides and rangers were very friendly, helpful and informative and worked hard to ensure that we had a varied experience during our stay choosing/offering different locations for safari, kayaking on the tank with buffalo and crocodiles, using the tree house, with wine or beer to hand, or just sitting outside our tent at breakfast or any time of day there were always lots of colorful birds nearby, binoculars not necessary, and also a civet cat. On safari we saw 5 leopards, elephants, deer, buffalo and hundreds of birds, a badger mongoose and even a pangolin amongst others, so many animals. Best thing - lots but being greeted as you climbed down from the truck after seeing animals on evening safari with a fresh towel followed by a G&T was delightful. As were the oil lamp lit beautiful table settings that greeted you for meals There isn't a least apart from waking up at 4.45 am for 5.30 morning safari but that is necessary

Review Body: Well, I will try to explain briefly the amazing experience I had in Kulu Safaris. An example of how amazing it was is that I went with other six friends there, we fell in love with the place and we went back few days later!! Some of the activities we did are: the safari in Yala (where we could see a lot of animals, including 2 leopards), kayak in the lake or a hike plenty of stunning views. Furthermore, we saw the sunrise in the tree house and the beautiful sky plenty of stars at night. Regarding food I only can say that it was incredible, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast there and everything was really tasty, specially the banana bread ;) Last but not least, the staff, they are AWESOME. I have no words to describe the treatment we received, they took care of every detail as soon as we arrived there. They made that my whole experience was completely worth it and I highly recommend it!! Kulu safaris is plenty of surprises, stay there is a perfect opportunity to enjoy and discover the wildlife of Sri Lanka. I am looking forward to coming back to this wonderful country and of course, repeat my stay here! :D

Review Body: We picked Kulu as it was recommended by our friend. And we were happy as we made the right choice! Firstly we stayed in the tent next to the National Park. It is a tent but it is more than a tent. It has air condition, WiFi, electricity, washroom and shower. Spacious, Clean and cozy. Night time was cool and we slept with the sound of insects. We took our meals just in front of our tent, watching the lake, under the tree with hammock next to us. So peaceful! There is a tree house and we love it so much. We climb up to the tree house and enjoyed the beautiful scenery with their delivered chilled beer and white wine. It was really cool! We even went kayak at our free time. The lake was beautiful and we saw buffalos and birds. We stayed in Kulu for 2 nights and took a total of 4 safari trips. We saw leopards twice and lot of animals such as wild elephants, deers, mongoose and lot of birds. We thanks for the whole Kulu team who did a great job. They are nice, friendly, detailed and professional. They know what u want and always give u a big smile. We highly recommend it to anyone who want to visit Yala.

Review Body: We revisited the Kulu Safari Camp after four years and were overjoyed to note that the excellent standard was maintained: delicious food, lovely table decorations, super service in general, luxurious tents, extremely well trained, competent and friendly staff. In the mornings we woke to the sound of a miraculous multitude of different birds. The safaris themselves were a treat and some included swims in the most magical jungle streams. What topped it all was the wonderful tree-house in the crown of an old 'balu' tree, with a fantastic view over the surrounding hills and lakes. It was also heartwarming to observe that the over thousand trees of diverse sorts that had been planted four years ago had grown beautifully and promise to turn the site into a lush jungle in time to come. It was a pleasure to watch the staff watering the trees morning and evening. We thank the staff and the owners of Kulu Safari Camp from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful time we were given the opportunity to spend in this magical place and wish them all the best and lots of guests. We shall definitely return one day!

Review Body: A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE was had by us all and we send our sincere thanks to Manju and all his staff. The safari experience and guidance was truly wonderful, especially the driving (!), and the way in which James’s food allergies were handled during our visit was also greatly appreciated. Three of our party of five had never experienced a safari before, whilst my wife and I had had the thrill of such an experience in South Africa over twenty years ago. None of us were disappointed in seeing leopard, elephant, sloth bear, crocodile and the abundance of bird life. One visits Yala in the knowledge that there are not the different amounts of large mammals as in an African experience but in a way that is what makes this experience so enjoyable; you are never exactly sure of what you will see, and there is great excitement in trying to track down a sighting of both the elusive Sri Lankan leopard and sloth bear. Manju is a charming, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable host and we thank him for all he did for us, together with his wonderful and talented team. OUTSTANDING; THANK YOU. Fiona, Anton and James

Review Body: I first met Manju in September 2017 when I traveled with my husband Bob and we enjoyed the experience so much that I traveled again with my girlfriend Sally in October 2018. Manju and his team, Rohanna, Crazy Boy and the rest of the team were truly amazing and looked after us. We had fun. In 2017, we saw a sighting of many jackals and everything else, too many sights to list. Last year, we saw leopards, two of them and crocodiles. The elephants were truly magical and even when Manju and the Park Keeper had to get us out of the water with Rohanna's excellent driving and with Manju's instructions we had an exciting trip back to the main gate. Back at camp Sally and I had a beautiful tent overlooking the lake and were treated like princesses. The tree house looked scary so Sally and I opted for eating down on the ground, but I was brave enough to go to the first level!! I loved the experience so much that I have booked to visit Kulu Safaris Wilpattau in October. I look forward to seeing you there Manju. Review Body: This was my first safari experience so my expectations were only based on reviews and pictures on the internet. Sri Lanka has a lot of national parks so choose which animals you wish to see, and then pick the tour operator. I picked Yala merely because I wanted to see leopards. Also, please research on the season with the most sightings of the animals you wish to see as albeit the tour operator being an excellent tracker, they cannot magically make the animals appear, no matter how much you pay them. Kulu Safari site was well equipped and the staffs were organized. You can also opt for kayak or just laze on the treehouse. I spent 1 night and took 2 game sessions; one afternoon & the other morning. I was very lucky as we spotted a leopard & a sloth bear on my first game. We also manage to spot another leopard during my second game. I learned a lot about Sri Lanka’s wildlife and nature from both sessions. The food catered to my diet restriction (halal) was great paired with an amazing team and a huge tent room. My only regret was that I should have stayed longer.
