This 2-day Nusa Penida trip is for those who want to see Nusa Penida as it was before tourism. It allows you to see both sides of the island - the authentic East side, and the more touristy West side (with all the IG sights). It allows you to experience the beautiful island at a slower pace, and lets you experience places that few tourists get to see. What you'll be doing: The first day is an exploration of the authentic East Nusa Penida which few tourists see. This includes a visit to a local seaweed farm and village, exploration of the unique Goa Giri Putri cave temple, and seeing the captivating Atuh and Diamond Beaches as well as Teletubbies Hill before returning to your accommodation. On the second day, you'll explore West Nusa Penida, where all the IG-popular sights are! You will start early, so you can avoid the crowds at popular stops like Kelingking and Broken Beach as well as snorkeling destinations where you can see Manta Rays. You'll get to see Nusa Penida's beauty with fewer crowds and get to understand what all the fuss is about! See the itinerary for more details :)

What You'll Do

What You'll Do

Day 1: Bali - Nusa Penida - Goa Giri Temple - Seaweed Farm - Diamond and Auto Beach - Teletubbies Hill
Bali - Nusa Penida - Goa Giri Temple - Seaweed Farm - Diamond and Auto Beach - Teletubbies Hill

See the highlights of East Nusa Penida which is more authentic

  • Arrive in Nusa Penida via Fast Boat: You will start out your trip with a pick-up from your hotel in Bali, followed by a fast boat ride to Nusa Penida early in the morning (the first one departs between 7-8 am, depending on day and availability).
  • Goa Giri Putri Temple: Your first stop will be the Goa Giri Putri temple. This place is sacred for the Balinese, with many coming from the main island to take part in purification. Ask your guide about the Buddhist temple at the end!
  • Semaya Village Seaweed Farm: Next you will head to Semaya Village where most of the locals are seaweed farmers.
  • You can even get down and give the farmer a hand helping to tie up the seaweed seedlings to a rope so that they don't float away!
  • After, you will be invited into the home of the farmer to learn a bit more about how they use seaweed in their cooking.
  • Dimond and Atuh Beaches: Finally you will get to enjoy some of the epic views that Nusa Penida is known for by heading to Diamond and Atuh Beaches, which are side by side.
  • The diamond beach gets its name from the diamond-shaped rock cliffs which jut out of the beautiful blue waters.
  • If you have the time, you can climb the many stairs all the way down to the beach to enjoy the water up close.
  • Teletubbies Hill: If you still have time, you will head to Teletubbies Hill, to check out the round grass-covered mounds which are reminiscent of the hills in the children's TV show with the same name.
  • The hills can be bright green or a light brown - depending on the season!
  • Head to your accommodation
Day 2: Kelingking - Broken Beach - Angel Billabong - Crystal Bay - Manta Point - Gambit Beach
Kelingking - Broken Beach - Angel Billabong - Crystal Bay - Manta Point - Gambit Beach

See the highlights of West Nusa Penida and snorkel!

  • You will be picked up from your hotel at 7 am and your driver will take you around to the Island's hot spots and avoid the crowds.
  • Kelingking (T-Rex) - this is an iconic view of a limestone rock formation which looks like the head of a T-rex dinosaur. In addition to this curiously shaped island, you will also get a birds eye view of a beautiful strip of beach being washed by gorgeous blue green waters. To get to the actual beach requires climbing down a very long set of stairs, which can take 20-30 minutes one way depending on your fitness level. You should seek advice from your guide on whether you are able to get to the beach and back in time to make it to the other locations.
  • Broken Beach - this epic rock encircled cove with an archway, opening up to the sea is more than it's pretty looks. When you've had enough photos of the blue waters trickling in through the archway, head to the other side. As you stand at the cliff's edge looking over the deep blue waters, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the peacefully beautiful manta rays dancing in the current. A surreal image!
  • Angel Billabong - is a gorgeous rock pool, which gets replenished with the waters from the surrounding sea. This is a rather tempting place to take a dip and get your Insta fix, but we highly recommend not getting in the water as the tide and waves can move very quickly and unexpectedly. Enjoy the view from the top!
  • Nusa Penida Snorkelling: Once you finished with the overland trip and lunch, you will head to the port and board the boat. Before you board the boat you will be provided with snorkeling equipment. Please note that during this portion of your trip, you will be joining other participants.
  • Crystal Bay - the water here is super clear and fairly shallow making it a great spot for beginners. Here you will have a good chance to spot turtles and even an occasional Mola Mola a.k.a. Sun Fish.
  • Wall Beach - here you will see expansive coral reefs and schools of fish that abound here. Perhaps most impressive is the gorgeous blood-red finger corals, which thrive at Wall Beach. Snorkelers may even glimpse giant Moray eels, octopi, sweet-lip emperor fish, the red-toothed triggerfish, batfish, and more. The current is a bit strong, but you will see more fish here.
  • Manta Point - true to its name, this is the best place to spot Manta Rays. These large majestic creatures love to dance in the current. It's a truly epic sight if you get to see even one! Best season to see Mantas in this region is August - October, but it's possible outside of it as well. Because Mantas love current, the water speed here is quite rapid. If you are not a very confident swimmer you may want to wear a life jacket.
  • Gamat Beach - this clear water spot is known for vibrant coral reefs and colourful schools of fish. Turtles are also known to hang out here. Because it's difficult to reach this spot by land, the ocean life here is quite well preserved.
  • Return to Bali Once you've finished up with all the spots, you will head back to the harbor in Nusa Penida to make the last fast boat back to Bali.
  • The last boat leaves around 4.30pm, so you will need to be there about 30 minutes before.
  • You should be back to the Sanur Port by 5.30pm.
  • **Please note the above itinerary may need to be adjusted in terms of order and number of locations based on time and tides (the seaweed farm is best visited during low tide).
This is a sample itinerary and may be weather-dependent.

It was my first time to Penida and I had an amazing experience with Justin! He was really friendly and brought us to a local seaweed farm and we even visited one of the local families there. Getting invited to their house and eating crispy deep fried seaweed crackers was a really amazing experience. He also brought us to all the other spots we wanted to see, like Diamond Beach and Broken Beach - so beautiful! Highly recommend a trip with Justin!

I've been to Penida four times now, and I have to say that this trip package was the best one yet! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and really enhanced the experience for us. Visiting the seaweed farm was a unique and enjoyable addition to the trip - I learned so much. I highly recommend this trip for anyone looking for a different and exciting way to experience Penida.

We really enjoyed our trip with Justin who showed us a different side of Nusa Penida. Especially memorable was seeing the seaweed farm: meeting the farmers and learning about their lives, seeing their fields and their home. Seeing Diamond Beach was super impressive as well! Even better than the photos.

Wow. Where do I start. From start to finish, this tour was all class. I’ve travelled extensively and this would rank as one of my favourite tours ever. Friendly and knowledgeable guides, not crowded (took this on a private basis and no other groups at the summit). Coffee and breakfast provided was delightful. Seeing the sun rise over majestic mountains is an experience you cannot miss. A soak in the hot pools afterwards was just what I needed. Thank you Justin and my guide (ganjun-not sure of spelling). You made me feel safe and cared for and went above and beyond to ensure I had a memorable experience. Thank you.
