Review Body: We had an amazing time with Somer Dive Center. Thank you Luca and team!!!!! I am an experienced diver with close to 400 dives and have seen my share of dive sites and dive operations. We spend 8 days, 3 dives a day diving with Somer Dive Center in end of May beginning June 2018. The Dive Sites: Diving Komodo National Park is a fantastic experience. In my opinion these are some of the best dive sites in the world (I have been to South America, Red Sea, Maldives and many of the top dive sites in SE-Asia (incl. Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand). The reefs are in pristine condition and are teaming with fish and underwater creatures, including Mantas (saw so many that we stopped counting), reef sharks, turtles (again, stopped counting), cuttle fish (incl. Flamboyant), barracudas, million of the typical reef fish etc. etc. …also including all the small stuff needed to make a muck dive interesting (nudies, shrimps, seahorses etc. etc.). It is a must for any diver to dive Komodo!!!!! Somer Dive Center tries as much as possible to show you as many of the sites as possible during your stay. In our case they even went to sites that are rarely dived or are new dive sites, after discussing them with us – what a treat!!! The Boats: Somer has the largest boat in Labuan Bajo (Lumba Lumba) and an additional small speedboat, which also acts as tender for the big boat. We dived on both. Having both, gives Somer the flexibility to attend different divers/snorkelers needs. The big boat is VERY spacious and has three lounging areas, plus a large dive area and a big swim platform, it never felt crowed at all. Due to its size it is also a very stable boat, which we experience on a windy day with higher waves. The trips in and out to the dive sites feels more like a cruise (incl. food, drinks and amazing sunset), than an odious transfer to the dive sites. The relaxed atmosphere lead to beautiful conversations and spontaneous celebrations of amazing Manta dives or birthdays (yes, they have optional beer for the trip back ☺ and they provided me with a birthday cake – Thank YOU!!!). Lumba Lumba is in its first season and in very good condition. The People: While good dive sites and boat/equipment are obviously important ingredients for a successful dive, the people make the difference. Luca – the manager - sets the tone at Somer by being amazingly friendly, polite and committed. His example is followed by the two European Instructors (Samira and Sylvain), as well as the local stall (incl. Dive Masters Patrice and Garfur, as well as office staff – Norman, you are the best!!). While we got the impression when contacting other dive centers, that they would tell us what ever they think we wanted to hear, Luca gives you an honest answer and is committed to the promises that he makes and will go through some pain to keep them (in our case that included to go diving on a Sunday, when the dive center is normally closed). While Somer Dive Center is only in its second season – hence the new equipment -, Luca has more than 8 years of experience of extensive diving Komodo and readily shares his wealth of knowledge with his very experienced team, incl. leading exploratory dives. Dives sites at Komodo National Park can be challenging and even dangerous with very strong currents and needs local knowledge to be dived safely. Our trip was jinxed with almost constant breakdowns of our own private equipment, incl. BCD, camera battery charger and regulator hoses, etc. The Somer team was always ready to help immediately to make sure that we could continue diving and enjoying our trip. I was partially diving with the personal equipment (not dive shop!) from several team members (incl. the personal camera from Luca – after attempts from everybody to repair my charger or to find a substitute failed - and the personal BCD from Sylvain!!!!). I cannot thank the Somer team enough for their help. It is when things go wrong that the people make the difference!!! Again, I can only recommend diving with Somer Dive Center, it is an amazing and safe experience!

Review Body: My husband and I had 8 amazing days diving with Somer in May 2018. Luca the dive center manager and his team are super professional, very safe and great fun to be with! I could write a very very long review noting down what most of the others had already mentioned about the amazing dives, focus on safety, beautiful big boat, etc. Which are all very true! :) But what I really want to share which I think differentiates Somer from other equally good dive centers is the Somer team !! The dive manager Luca, has a heart of gold, is a very good person deep inside and keeps his word ! An example, my husband‘s camera battery charger stop charging (likely fried due to a power surge in hotel) on the 2nd day of our 11 days trip. The whole Somer team tried to help, Norman who is usually in the office tried to find a solution while we were out diving, looking (new fuse) in the electrical and mobile shops and finally bought a multi charger for us to try. Norman refuse any tip from us for helping! Sylvain the dive instructor drove back to his house to find a tool that could open the charger and Luca helped to open the charger to try check what was broken inside. Samira, the beautiful dive instructor tried to put on Labuan Bajo expat chat a plea to anyone who has the Olympus charger for help. Despite all the efforts did not managed to get the charger fixed. Giving up, my husband looking very sad got into the car to go back to the hotel with me, dear Luca, ran up to us and said, take my private camera and underwater housing!!! :) Luca with the heart of gold!! Thank you again Luca, you saved Lars‘s dive holiday!! :) On the last day of our dive vacation was my husband‘s birthday. Luca not only let my husband pick the dive sites (he picked all the manta sites of course) but had a birthday celebration with cupcake and candles when we arrived on the boat and with another bigger most delicious cake and celebration in the dive office after a fantastic manta dive day!!! Luca also refused to eat his lunch as he was looking diligently with the small speedboat for mantas for our last dive. After our last dive, dear Samira and Sylvain presented to my husband a beautiful personal dive video of us diving the past 8 days with them as a birthday present!! :) We were really touched!! Thank you Samira & Sylvain, we will treasure this video till our dying days! I definitely recommend Somer to anyone wanting to dive in Komodo. Review Body: I checked different Dive Shops before picking Somer and finally I decided to go with them because they were going to the North that day. The treat I was giving when I showed up at the shop was impecable. Everything was explained pretty clear and once I decided to go with them we went down to the basement to check my sizes (BCD, shoes, wet suit, etc). I paid by card, which was helpful to me back then because I was having some issues with the ATMs. Next morning I showed up in the shop and after like 20 minutes we went to the port and go onto the boat. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we had to wait like an hour before we were given clearance to set sail. In the end we were lucky set sail but we couldn't make it to the North because of the bad weather. On the way to Central, where we finally ended up, we had a nice breakfast and I got to meet the crew and the guests, all of them very nice. My instructor was a local from Indonesia, he was always very kind and helpful. We dived 4 together with the Dive Master. The boat was in great shape. We dived at Batu Bolong, Tatawa Kecil and Manta Point. All of them were amazing. At Batu Bolong we were greeted by beautiful colorful corals and plenty of fishes schools. We saw 3 huge turtles and a black-tip shark that was kind of hidden and sleeping below a rock. It was amazing. Then we did Tatawa Kecil, which was kind of similar to Batu Bolong but which is not done as often as the first one due to weather conditions. We saw plenty of fishes and beautiful corals and also a shark that moved gracefully around in front of us. After a nice lunch we went to Manta Point to do our drift dive. I forgot to mention that there was some current in Batu Bolong but nothing crazy. Our drift dive looking for mantas didn't seem very promising at the beginning, were we saw nothing (neither fishes nor corals) but as we moved forward, we saw two huge mantas on our right site. By the middle of the dive we approached an slope and suddenly one manta showed up, then another one and then... I had to get as close as possible to the ground and looking towards the sky I saw the amazing spectacle of a whole family swimming gracefully over me. It was amazing! By the end of the dive we saw two more mantas so we were super lucky! Overall, I had a great experience with Somer Dive even if we didn't end up in the North. The crew and the guests were very kind and the boat was in a nice shape.

Review Body: My friends and I went diving with Somer Dive, first on a day trip and then a few days later on a Liveaboard. This was an amazing experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking. For starters, Tanti and Norman in the office are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the various dive spots. They answered all of our questions and made sure that we didn’t overlap dive sites, since we first did a day trip and then later joined a 3 day Liveaboard. The price was very affordable for everything we got. We checked almost all of the dive shops in town, and this was the most affordable with the best value. The staff were helpful in finding a package that met our “backpacker budget”. The diving itself was unbelievable. One of the owners, Luca, was on the boat with us and was our guide. Some of the dives were tough but he and the other guide, Nero, were very very experienced and made us all feel comfortable in and out of the water. They also knew how to chose dive sites based on our experience level and the sea currents etc. Luca and Nero were also very just personable and it was enjoyable to spend a few days with them in general. Most of the other dive boats only did 8 dives plus a trip to Rinca to see the dragons for the 3 day Liveaboard, but Luca wanted us to get 9 dives plus the visit, so he arranged an extra night dive which was awesome! Both the Liveaboard and the day boat were spacious, and had great sunny and shaded areas to lounge around. The gear was in very good condition, and there were staff to help set everything up. No complaints there. The food was AWESOME! They were able to accommodate me as I don’t eat meat, and there was always enough for the big eaters like my partner. Always coffee and tea and lots of snacks. We were never hungry. The dorm beds were basic but comfortable and clean. Toilets were clean. You can tell that all the people at Somer Dive are passionate about what they do, and they want their customers to have the best trips possible. Overall, I recommend them 10/10!

Review Body: Me and my partner came to Komodo now in the end of Ramadan to see the dragons and to enjoy the superb diving we heard so much about. If you plan to do more than a few dives in your life getting the padi cert is a cost saver as well as something that'll make your experience so much better. The people in our group did discuss whether doing it in Komodo/Labuan Bajo is good or bad though because it might end up being the best (hard to top) dives you will ever have! During my dives to become a certified open diver I got to see sharks, manta rays and more beautiful corals than ever before during my previous discover scuba sessions. If you're here though it's worth getting certified and I can't imagine a better place than Somer. Though we had some minor issue with my equipment during my first dive it was promptly and professionally taken care of and the rest of the time I found all of it very good. The boat they have is amazing, more comfortable than most the hotels I've stayed at this far and you get fruits, donuts, lunch, coffee and water throughout the diving days. Beanbags on deck serve an awesome relaxing environment as you travel back and forth to the diving spots. I could spend a day on that boat just relaxing. I was so lucky to get paired one on one with Samira for my certification. With patience, simple understandable tutoring and helpful tips she helped me not only to get through the tests with full score but also to become so much better a diver during our few dives together. I'm not calmest fish in the sea and easily get riled up but with a steady hand she literally pulled me back together when I was about to float off. Our cruising the currents at Manta Point will forever be an unforgettable experience. Though I didn't dive with the other instructors at Somer we all shared meals and laughs aboard the Lumba Lumba and I'd like to give a shout out to them as well! Thank you Samira and all the rest of you at Somer for an amazing few days in the blue!

Review Body: After read all excellent review on trip advisor, I decided to book 3 fun dives with somer dive right before my flight to Labuan Bajo, when still on waiting room at airport. Sent short WA message and the owner (Luca) directly call me to confirm my book. Luckily, only 2 spots left for next day dive, and surely I also got discount rate for bringing my owned diving gear. Going to dive center after arrived at Labuan Bajo to drop my gear and finished all required diving document also for payment. Serviced with warm welcome by Norman as admin of dive center and he is so friendly, right after that Luca also coming to join the chat, offering coffee. All is well explained for next day dive. The boat is huge which supposed to use as LOB boat instead of daily trip. The name is “Lumba Lumba” and I think It’s the biggest boat for day dive trip around Labuan bajo. It very spacious with 2 toilets and shower station after the dive. We can use upper deck just to chillin’ with beanpillow between the dive, while down deck for gear and lunch. The food is okay that you can choose menu day before. The dive also good and grouping based on certification and I got buddies that also experienced divers with good air consumption. So all 3 dives we entering the water first and go out from as last group  DM brief always brief us with detail on every divesite. Boat crew also very helpful. I see manta, blacktip shark, moray ell and many creatures. Unlucky that my gopro is broken right day before the dive so don’t have any underwater documentation. Cellular signal reception is also very good even we’re in the middle of the sea. I still can manage to buy new gopro online during the dive.  Eventhough I join this trip only as my “warming up” dive before my LOB, but I won’t hesitate to use somerdive again in near future if I choose for land-based dive.

Review Body: Somer dive, absolutely incredible dive school. The Staff - the Italian owner Luca is VERY experienced. He is patient, kind, funny and knowledgable. My other dive guide Gafur was amazing. Both Luca and Gafur would constantly check that we were okay, point out lots of different types of marine life which we may not have spotted. The administrative staff (Banjo) were also great as they happily told us about ways to save money on bus tickets, gave us directions, helped us with our paperwork etc. The diving - Komodo's diving was out of this world, Somer Dive's experience contributed to this by taking us to a mix of different dive spots allowing us to see various types of fish, coral and seascapes. We saw countless manta rays (including one flying half a meter above our heads), lots of reef sharks, turtles etc. The smaller size of the dive centre offers dive spot flexibility based around your experience level! We were giving amazing food for breakfast and lunch on the boat. Absolutely to die for. After a busy day of diving we were offered free accommodation at the dive school. Don't expend 5* accommodation but it was great for the fact it was free. The boats - we were lucky enough to experience both the dive boats. We used their speedboat which allowed us to be the first divers to each spot - we saw one other group the WHOLE day. We also got to stop off at deserted islands and beaches for drinks and lunch which the other schools' large boats cannot. We also got to try out the big boat which was a great experience. We left earlier than the other dive companies' big boats so we beat them all to the spots and got to dive in peace. The big boat had lots of space to relax, music speakers etc. The equipment - top quality equipment. Long wetsuits, booties and fins were all included.

Review Body: Before we arrived in Labuan Bajo, we contacted Somer Diving via WhatsApp. Luca took great care of us, even organizing a room for us. Communication was very good. After we arrived, we stepped by the dive shop. Luca was so enthusiastic, that he explained us almost all dive sites in the national park. As we were staying for a bit longer, but only wanted to dive on 3 days, we had some choice and he advised us very well. Once on the boat, Patrice, Samira and Silvain took over with excellent service. Haven't experienced anything like it! All three of them are very communicative, fun and above all extremely experienced divers. We loved every minute on the boat. On all three days of diving we left the harbour as the first dive boat and we were usually the first ones to jump on the dive site. This was really great, as it gives you a bigger chance of seeing sharks which might get scared away from all the divers. I was really fascinated by the crew managing all our diving equipment. On all three non-consecutive days of diving, we had the same identical equipment, which means they knew in detail the equipment each of us was using. The diving in Komodo is incredible and Patrice, Samira and Silvain will make sure you will get the best of it. Sharks, Manta, octopus, turtles, nudibranch, Manta shrimp, etc etc. The boat is really spacey and you could easily nap a bit before the first dive, as it is almost 2h to the dive sites. During that time, the crew briefs you on the upcoming dive site. Their briefings are the best ones I have had! Overall, the people here made our stay so lovely. All of them are really caring and are trying to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, this is the place to go!

Review Body: I had a 1 day DSD with Somer dive and everything was perfect from begining to end. The day before the dive, when i stoped by at the office, they provide me with all the information needed for the dive. Since i passed DSD 2 weeks before already, they explained that they could adapt to my skills while still fitting the padi requierments. The contact with the staff was really friendly. They make you try all the equipement the day before to make sure everything is ready for diving. Being a small group, we reached the dive sites in speed boat and we were there before all the other companies, having the dive site for us alone. Was amazing. My instructor, Sylvain, gave all the necessary details and the theory on the way to the site. He briefed me about the site and what to expect to see. He was really competent and friendly. Perfect instructor, thank you!! The second dive was kind of a secret spot. The professional instructors felt that currents were good there for an amazing dive and it was really amazing, we saw rays, turtles, shark!! So beautiful. Due to the use of speed boat, we had some time remaining and they proposed an optional third dive. With such a great team, it was impossible to refuse and I dont regret it. At the end of the day, they did everything possible to help me catch my bus and droped me with scooter to my hostel so that i could get my bus right on time. Thank you guys!! I highly recomend this company for diving in Labuan Bajo. They provide amazing services, friendly contact and professional knowledge from before begining until after the end. I hope i come back to LB to dive with Somer dive again.

Review Body: I can't express how good the trip I took with Somer dive Komodo was. I did a 3 day / 2 night liveaboard scuba trip by myself this past week and was blown away by the experience. From my first interactions with Norman and Tanti at the office to the cruise itself and the final return trip and goodbyes, every part was fantastic. The trip was affordable and they were flexible enough to work with people to customize the boat schedule as well as the dive sites they chose for the diving levels and wishes of the guests. The boat had all the essentials including comfy rooms and nice dining and chilling areas. The crew was capable and helpful and the chef was excellent so no one was never hungry. What sets this tour company apart though were the superior dive instructors. Nero was super experienced and knowledgeable and was constantly working to get guests onto the best spots during dives. His enthusiasm for the Komodo region and its unique marine ecosystems really came through. Luca was the highlight though. A super fun, friendly, enthusiastic and tireless instructor, he gave the most entertaining and detailed dive briefings and took a real personal interest in each of the guests. He was professional above and below the water and not only made me feel safe but also pushed me to be a better diver. I saw more mantas, sharks, turtles and other marine life than I ever expected on this trip, but the staff really made the experience. Can't say enough positive things about Luca and the rest of the company. Keep it up!!!

Review Body: I joined the discovery scuba diving (DSD) one day trip and was super satisfied! I have done the uncertified scuba diving on several other occasions & places before and this one was undoubtedly one of the best! Huuuuge thanks go to the instructor Irwan who is absolutely amazing, experienced, has a very pleasant personality and I felt totally in good hands with him. He explained us everything in a very nice way and was assuring all the time when being under the water that we all feel good and helped us to overcome all our doubts/fears. We were in a small group of three people for DSD, maximum is 4. There are 2 dives in the standard DSD package (one of them being the introductory dive) and you can buy an extra one for a decent money if you want to. Irwan was very flexible with this, it was not any problem to add it on spot. The Somer Dive uses great big wooden boat, there is everything you need (even a fresh water shower) and the crew was very helpful and attentive all the time, especially when getting to/from the water. The diving sights were amazing, but that is what you expect from Komodo. Same as other diving companies, Somer also rotates the locations, so if you want to join them another day again, most probably you end up getting to different spots than previously. It was a wonderful experience, thank you very much! Regret not having extra day in Labuan Bajo to be able to join the other day again :) All the best, Ivana & Martin

Review Body: As soon as I walked into somer dive I knew I would book with them. Tanti and Norman were both extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and patient when we asked many questions before booking. We decided to book with them as they offered the best prices along with what looked like would be the best experience, and we were not disappointed. We booked a day trip which included 3 dives. The boat was great, from the chill area, to the lunch, to the staff on board helping with gear. Diving was amazing and dive guides were even better. We liked the day trip so much we decided to book liveaboard as well. The 3 day liveaboard was even better then we hoped. Again food was great, staff on board was great, chill out area was great. The diving itself was amazing as somer dive dive guides know the area so well having been diving there for 30 plus years. Some of the diving was easier and some was more difficult, but was extremely comfortable, and also pleased with the choices, as now I feel I am a stronger diver because of the variety they offer. We saw so much wildlife with diving which made for an even better trip. Our dive guide Luca was so much fun in and out of the water. Do yourself a favour and skip all other dive shops in Labuan Bajo, and book with somer dive. :)

Review Body: We are just back from a 3d/2n liveaboard and can't stop thinking about it! The dives in Komodo are spectacular and you would never want the trip to finish! We have seen sharks, turtles, mantas, eagle rays, huge tuna, octopus and tens of other large and small fish and nudibranches. Sleeping anchored in small bays with no boat around, watching the sunset and waking up with sunrise...simply the best way to get close to nature. We are newly certified divers and despite Komodo being known for challenging dives, our instructor (and owner of the diving center), Luca, made sure we would always feel at ease. We were diving with a group of 4 and had both Luca and another divemaster (Lesly, thanks a lot!!). The boat is very big and comfortable with many chilling areas, both covered and open, and two bathrooms with shower. The crew makes sure you always have what you need and the chef is simply amazing. I don't know how he could prepare such tasty meals on a boat. We always had plenty of food, water and coffee available. 5 stars all round, and if I could go back, I would try to stay even longer!

Review Body: We (my brothers and I) booked a day trip with Some Dive to go snorkeling and free diving. Even though they are primarily a dive company (All of the divers on our trip seemed to have an amazing time) I cannot review them as a dive company. What I can do is review them as a really great small company that had a personal touch, infectiously positive personalities, and a willingness to make things work for us when we only wanted to tag along on their trip. I have gone on a few snorkeling specific trips here and tagging along with a dive company was hands down the best experience I've had. The divemasters are passionate and well informed and getting to sit in on the dive briefings was great and I felt so much more prepared to be in the water than with the snorkel trips I went on. In the end, Somer dive was everything they said they were and more. Can't recommend them enough. **They only had six beers on the boat and there were three of us and that's just two beers a piece...so if you want a couple of cold beers for the long ride home maybe make arrangements the night before. :-)

Review Body: I recently got my AOW in Labuan Bajo. Picking a dive center was a bit of a challenge due to the high competition in the area. I spent days getting information via emails and making a decision based on that. In the end, I went to few dive shops and let my intuition speak. Once I got into Somerdive, I knew I was in the right place. I was very thrilled with getting my AOW since it has been nearly a year since I last dived. My instructor, Matteo, was someone very professional, encouraging and incredibly nice. I knew I could trust him with my life for the next couple of days. Regarding the boat, it was well-equipped and very comfortable. Delicious food and snacks on board. Crew members were very dedicated to do their best for their customers and we were all very pleased. Same thing for other divemasters and instructors on the boat, they created an enjoyable atmosphere. I would definitely come back and do fun dives with them! If you ever consider getting your AOW certification, I would totally recommend this place!

Review Body: I'm not a diver but decided to join my divers friends on their open trip organised by Somer Dive. It was the best decision. My group consists of 2 divers and 2 snorkelers. Only one other diver joined the open trip so it was 5 guests being served by 5 boat crews, 1 dive master & 1 snorkel master. We certainly felt really pampered. They paid close attention to everyone's past diving/snorkel experience and adjust the trip accordingly. Their concern for safety deserved special acknowledgement. Their boat was perfect. It has special lounging area on the upper deck to rest. Each one of the crew really took care of all our needs. The experience was so memorable that in the end we did all of our 4 dive/snorkel trips with them. Their great service extends to the staff at their office. Review Body: All in all, I dived 7 days with Somer Dive. I felt very welcome and confortable, and the whole team is great as they all have beautiful characters and always like to have a talk and fun with their guests and try to make them as happy as possible. Somer Dive has a great dayboat and very good and experienced staff. They do everything to keep the guests save all the time, with proper equipment, very good breefings (boat and dives) and also whilst diving. For me it was also very important to see that the diveguides really respect nature and underwaterworld and they care a lot about how to meet (and how to NOT meet) this beautiful underwater-creatures- they always make sure to keep a respectful distance to them. Most of my dives I did with Corina, and I want to say thanks to her, as I had great, safe and stunning dives and with her! I highly recommend Somer Dive for a great experience and a very familiar environment! Thank you all so much- you made my time and my dives on Komodo unforgettable!

Review Body: I booked two day trips with Somer Dive. Everything went perfectly. They give you such a warm welcome in the center. Lucca takes the time to explain the diving plan in details and answers to all your questions. They try to bring you to the best dive sites for you to get the most out of your experience and they pay attention to everyone’s wishes. They make sure to keep everyone safe by setting up the right ratios with the dive masters and groups with similar diving levels. They offer courses as well and they seemed very attentive to the student divers. Very professional organization. They have great equipments and if anything goes wrong, all the dive masters are here to help. They also have dive masters who speak multiple languages which is a major plus. All you need to do is walk in the center and talk to the team. Thank you so much for this great experience. If I ever come back to Komodo, I will definitely return to this center.

Review Body: I made my first liveaboard with somer dive komodo. The whole crew and the owner, Luca, are very friendly and want to help you whenever they can. Our dive guide Nero is really experienced instructior, who is diving in Komodo for more than 30 years. He knows every dive site, every current and how to dive safe. Nero always takes care about the divers and explains the divesite in detail. The boat has a big sundeck, a chill out area and a dinning room. Enough space for everyone is provided. The crew cleans the boat each day. All safety features are provided (lifewest, speedboat, first aid kit,oxygen, emergency boat....) The food is freshly cooked and is different each day. It's a small buffet with fresh seafood, traditional dishes as well as western food. Drinking water, tea, coffee is provided too. On top it's one of the cheapest providers for an amazing liveaboard. Would definitly do it again.
