Leonard Trails absolutely exceeded every expectation I had for this safari experience. Not only did we see an elusive Sloth Bear, but we saw dozens of elephants, crocodiles, peacocks, and so much more. No Leopard unfortunately, but I know other groups in different vehicles saw them. Our staff was attentive, personable, and entertaining. We loved them all. I would even say the tent we slept in was way above expectations. Air con, new amenities, cleanliness, etc. And this is a tent in the middle of the woods. It certainly didn’t feel that way. This is Glamping all the way. Such a cool experience. And the food the camp staff prepared for us was delicious. This place definitely deserves 5 stars and is totally worth the money.
Just an excellent place to stay! We arrived on our Tuk tuks and there was ample parking. Our group managed to take over the whole camp and on arrival we were greeted by friendly Rangers and staff. A welcome drink was much appreciated and after instructions about the local area and its wildlife we were shown to some very special tents. What a thrill it was to open the door to find a very luxurious bed and en suite facilities waiting for us. Lunch was provided in a tranquil setting followed by a safari in zone 1. We came back to camp with drinks waiting for us. Our evening was enjoyed with another super meal.
The staff were very attentive. Nothing to much to ask for. Breakfast the following morning under canvas was enjoyed by all. What a place! What an experience!
Spent two nights in a very comfortable and spacious tent, with flushable toilets, air conditioning, hot water and all conveniences. Enjoyed evening drinks in the beautiful lounge tent, very much part of the experience. The food was great and service absolutely excellent. The vast knowledge of the wilderness of our guide Krishan and the willingness with which he imparted it deserve special mention and a big thank you!
Sightings were excellent despite the park having received abundant rainfall. The weather gods were kind. Two safaris in Block I revealed two separate sightings (cubs on the first occasion), adult female on the second. And two tuskers. But a third safari, in Block V, was the real winner - a stunningly beautiful part of the park that gifted us with a sighting of a herd of elephants and a lengthy sighting of a young leopardess which we variously observed sitting and (unsuccessfully) stalking deer. And given the over-fascination with Block One, Block Five was surprisingly tame and peaceful too.
With our excellent sightings, all in all, memorable.
Had an amazing three nights in camp and multiple game drives in Yala. Guide/ranger Dhanu was a wonderful host and did a fantastic job in the park. Very knowledgeable, passionate about the wildlife, sensitive to our needs as older guests. Camp had an authentic feel, tents were good with air con, eating out under the stars in the evenings a memorable experience. Food was varied, interesting and delicious. Had good sightings of leopards and one of a sloth bear, bird life excellent. A bit of a drive to reach Area1 of the park where the landscape is more open making leopard sightings a higher likelihood. If doing two separate game drives in a day a bit laborious going backwards and forwards. Gate into Area 3 much closer to camp, landscape here more wooded. Did one all day safari which I wouldn’t recommend, facilities at stopping place very basic and everyone else in the park seems to congregate there too. It is by the ocean though providing some good photo opportunities. Camp staff couldn’t do enough for us, very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this camp.
Myself and my wife were on our honeymoon in Sri Lanka. We had booked an overnight safari with Leopard trails and had the most amazing experience.
We were greeted by a very welcoming team lead by Dhanu.
Dhanu explained what the itinerary for the next 24 hours would be, in the most spectacular camp setting, before showing us to our beautiful luxury tent.
We set off, for our first evening safari with Dhanu and our experienced driver/guide.
Dhanu is a credit to Leopard trails, his passion and knowledge shines through and is infectious, drawing you into the surroundings and new environment.
That evening we saw elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo lots of spotted deer as well as an array of other wildlife.. but not the elusive leopard!
The evening at camp was good conversation with a gorgeous feast of traditional Sri Lankan curries. The standard of food was amazing, hats off to the chef and his team.
The next morning we set off early to be one of the first vehicles into the national park, myself and my wife, very excited. Within 30 mins our experienced driver pulled away from the pack of other guides and vehicles from other resorts and took us around our own route and his instinct was outstanding as a beautiful female leopard was spotted by Dhanu and driver which then proceeded to walk out in front of our path, stop and take a look at us all sat there. It was unbelievable.
We then set off again only to spot a sloth bear minutes later, followed then by a huge male leopard in the bushes.
We had the most spectacular time with leopard trails and obviously recommend them if looking at doing a safari in this location.
Seeing leopards and other animals in their habitat is obviously not guaranteed, but being guided by this experienced and friendly team, we were lucky to have, definitely made that difference.
