Michael and Phyllis were such a lovely couple that made the whole experience really enriching. Michael was really patient and such a great teacher! His experience and skills in watchmaking really shows in his passion for watches. The amount of knowledge Michael has in watchmaking is really commendable and he was able to answer every questions that the class had. Overall a fun afternoon spent learning more about the intricacies of watchmaking and time well spent!

Unmis class was so fun and stress free. Loved making the cupcake soaps and unmi was patient and encouraging the whole time. What a therapeutic experience. I will be back for more classes with unmi.

This was so cool and unlike anything I’ve ever done before! You can send a design in advance, or pick one from the wall. Three hours was more than enough time to get instruction, do some practice and then complete a piece. It’s definitely not as easy as it seems, but I was still pleased with the end results. Jerome was very accommodating and helpful. You are allowed to bring your own drinks and snacks. Definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for something 100% unique!

Creative Workshops in Singapore FAQs

Where can I find unique artistic workshops in Singapore that aren't mainstream?

For authentic and lesser-known creative workshops in Singapore, explore neighbourhoods like Tiong Bahru and Jalan Bukit Ho Swee, where local artisans often host intimate classes in traditional crafts, pottery, or batik dyeing. Book in advance and look for workshops run by community centres or local artists to gain a more immersive experience away from tourist-heavy spots.

Are there any local-driven creative workshops suitable for photography enthusiasts?

Absolutely! Many local art studios in Singapore offer photography workshops focused on street and cultural photography, often held in vibrant neighbourhoods such as Chinatown or Little India. These classes are great for capturing Singapore’s colourful local life while learning nuanced techniques like light painting or candid street photography. Check platforms like meetup.com or local photography groups for hidden gems and small class sizes.

What neighbourhoods are best to explore for hands-on creative workshops that showcase Singapore’s local culture?

Neighbourhoods like Kampong Glam, Little India, and Tiong Bahru are filled with boutique studios and community centres offering workshops in traditional arts, crafts, and culinary skills. Participating in a batik painting session in Kampong Glam or a Peranakan craft workshop in Katong can give you a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s multicultural heritage. Look out for weekend artisan markets or cultural festivals for spontaneous workshop opportunities.

How can I find eco-friendly and sustainable creative workshops during my visit?

Singapore boasts several eco-conscious artisans and studios focusing on sustainable art and crafts. Search for organisations that offer workshops in upcycling, natural dyeing, or paper-making using recycled materials. Places like The Green Collective or local community gardens often host eco-art classes, and booking ahead will ensure you secure a spot in these enriching, environmentally mindful experiences.

What tips do you have for capturing the essence of Singapore's local culture during a creative workshop?

Bring your camera or smartphone with a good macro lens and be respectful of artisans and fellow participants. Immersing yourself fully—engaging with traditional techniques, asking questions, and participating actively—can yield authentic captures. Early mornings at markets or less crowded spots tend to offer softer natural light. Also, sharing your work and experiences on social media using local-specific hashtags can help you connect with fellow travellers and artisans for personalised tips.
