It was a beautiful way to spend the last day of 2025! Lisa was such a sweet bubbly chatty person. Her studio was comfy and cosy. It was just my daughter and I so we had the undivided attention of Lisa which was nice. Felt more like friends hanging out together on a cloudy quiet day, making shoes while having tea and cookies and chatting about anything and everything. Interesting to hear Lisa’s stories. I was very happy with how my pair of espadrille turns out. Highly recommend Lisa!

Leather Making in Singapore FAQs

Where can I experience traditional leather making workshops in Singapore off the beaten path?

For a genuine and lesser-known leather making experience, explore boutique ateliers like 1413 Studio or local craft studios in the historic Kampong Glam area. These workshops often offer hands-on classes led by artisans who utilise traditional methods, allowing travellers to create personalised leather pieces. Booking in advance is recommended, and bringing your camera to capture the intricate craftsmanship adds a special touch to your visit.

Are there any local markets or hidden spots where I can buy unique handmade leather products in Singapore?

Yes, beyond the mainstream shopping centres, visit places like *Haji Lane* or *Tiong Bahru Market*, where independent artisans sell handcrafted leather accessories and bags. These hidden gems often feature products crafted using traditional techniques, perfect for photography enthusiasts seeking authentic cultural souvenirs. Engage with the artisans to learn about their craft, and always ask about the story behind each piece for richer photographic content.

What should I know when visiting leather workshops or factories in Singapore?

Many artisanal workshops are small and prioritise personalised experiences, so arrive punctually and inquire about photography policies beforehand. Wearing casual attire suitable for hands-on activities can enhance your experience. Respect local craftsmanship by observing the detailed process, and don't forget to bring a camera with good macro capabilities to capture close-up textures and details of the leatherwork, which are often overlooked by mainstream tourists.

Can I customise or personalise leather items while in Singapore, and where should I go?

Absolutely! Several boutique leather artisans in areas like *Duxton Hill* or *Little India* offer customisation services, including personalised embossing, colour choices, and monogramming. These small-scale workshops are ideal for travellers seeking unique keepsakes. Visiting these places provides a great opportunity to document local craftsmanship and learn about the traditional tools and techniques used in leather making, making it perfect for photography lovers interested in cultural storytelling.

What is the best time to visit leather making venues or markets in Singapore for a cultural experience?

The best time to explore Singapore’s leather scene is during local craft festivals or weekend markets. Keep an eye out for events like the *Singapore Made* market or craft festivals held at arts hubs such as *Gillman Barracks*. Attending these gatherings allows you to see multiple artisans in action, capture lively and authentic scenes, and gain insights into Singapore’s unique blend of traditional and contemporary leather craftsmanship. Early mornings or late afternoons provide optimal natural lighting for photography, enhancing the colours and textures of leather products.
