We booked this trip as a family of 4. Girls aged 6 and 9. We had a great experience and learned a lot about turtles and the importance of conservation efforts. The educational talk at the beginning was well presented by a knowledgeable volunteer who welcomed questions. The best bit was cleaning the tanks. So glad we booked this experience at an authentic conservation place. Every time we walk down the beach now the girls spot litter and pick it up.

My family and I really enjoyed the tour around the family owned farm, the educational session on the lifespan of the fireflies by the entomologist interns, the freshly prepared dinner made by all the participants and the grand finale of watching the fireflies wake up in the starlit sky.
Thank you so much for such a hospitable evening! We all loved it so much!

We loved everything about this firefly experience , from a warm family friendly welcome from Wayan, interesting and important information from the very clever scientist (?Dewi) , she also took us on a tour through a local farm and rice and fruit tree fields, the most delicious, interactive cooking and feast and of course the firefly's at night . Thankyou so much , our family , with 2 young kids thoroughly enjoyed it and is a highlight of our trip !

We absolutely loved this whole experience. The host was amazing. They took the time to get to know us and answer all the questions we had. The tour of the facility and surrounding farms was great. Helping to prepare our meal with the family and a mini cooking class was a fantastic touch as well. We loved seeing the fireflies, but this experience was so much more than that.

Had a great evening at this beautiful place up in the jungle. The girls were very enthousiastic about the fire flies, and it was nice to see them roaming around at night. Also enjoyed the lovely homecooked meal a lot, thank you for the great experience!

We had a great time at Saba Asri Turtle Conservation. The visit was informative, it was wonderful to volunteer and be involved. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.

A Soulful Firefly Encounter — A Hidden Gem with Heart
I stumbled upon this firefly tour on Seek Sophie — though in truth, nothing is ever by chance. This was an experience that arrived exactly when it was meant to.
Hosted by Pak Wayan and his family, this tour is more than just an activity — it’s a heart-opening glimpse into the spirit of Bali. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with a delicious snack cooked over a traditional firewood stove, and stories that moved the soul.
Pak Wayan shared his calling: to protect the fireflies — those glowing creatures we rarely see anymore. Like bees, fireflies are quietly disappearing. In over four decades of life, I had never seen one. That realization was quietly heartbreaking. Fireflies are nature’s litmus test — their presence signals clean water, clean air, and balanced ecosystems.
Pak Wayan has dedicated his land to researching, rehabilitating, and releasing fireflies back into the wild. Yes, you’ll see them. Yes, you’ll even release them — but please, leave your Disney expectations at the door. What you’ll witness is real magic, not movie magic. And it’s far more meaningful.
We helped prepare dinner, shared stories, and felt the love in every bite. The food was humble but deeply nourishing — soul food in every sense.
And then there’s Desa Taro — the village that cradles this entire experience. It feels like a whisper from old Bali. The land hums with stillness, the air is pristine, and the spirits feel present, watching kindly as you walk with respect.
Thank you, Seek Sophie, for championing experiences like this — where purpose meets presence, and travelers connect not just with places, but with people and meaning.
If you crave more than selfies and sunsets, go here. It’s unforgettable.
Oh!!! Make sure you bring a light sweater or light jacket. It gets cold!!

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this, but was delighted and surprised by the whole evening: meeting the host and his family, touring the farm, cooking, and just enjoying the company. And of course the fireflies! Sadly we didn't have many show up that night, but bringing them back is the whole point! A delightful and unique way to spend an evening.
