Why go
- The highlight here is to see the blue flames phenomenon that takes place in the volcano, when its sulfuric gases come into contact with the air.
- For us though, it was the views over Ijen's crater lake (the world's largest crater lake!) that made the trek truly special.
- You'll also get a glimpse into the lives of sulfur miners who work tirelessly here.

What to do or see here
Ijen's blue flames & sulfur miners are truly unique. Even without the blue flames, the stunning views over the world's largest crater lake make the climb worthwhile!

Best Time to Go
Best time to visit is during dry season which is approximately April to October.

Who is it for?
Moderate hikers can conquer Ijen! It's a night hike with uneven terrain & steep sections, but only takes 1.5hrs to the top (2799m). Train a bit, but don't overthink it!

Top Tips
Ijen trek is at night, so hike slowly! Blue flames may be closed due to toxic fumes, but the stunning landscape is still worth it. Hike with an ex-miner for a meaningful experience.
