The magic of Balinese village life: rice paddies, fireflies + farm-to-table meal
Experience the simplicity and magic of Balinese village life with a farm-to-table dinner and a stroll through the rice paddies to see enchanting fireflies. By choosing this experience, you will support fair trade and sustainable practices that benefit the local community. What to expect Start your evening with a pick-up from Ubud and a guided tour of Bali Cooking School's beautiful garden, where you can see local vegetables and fruits grown organically and taste some of them fresh off the vine. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by the skilled cooks of the Bali Cooking School, using ingredients from the garden. Then, take a tour of the rice paddies to learn about the Subak irrigation system and the harvest cycle, and if the weather permits, witness the enchanting fireflies while sipping on a hot drink. This is a great opportunity to listen to the sounds of crickets, frogs, and geckos while learning about native wildlife. Note: You may expect to see a number of fireflies lighting up the rice paddies and bushes along the riverbanks. It's important to note that fireflies are sensitive to light pollution and it is important for participants to follow the instructions from the guide to maximize the possibility of seeing the fireflies.

Wayan Jhon Mudika is a farmer with a deep connection to Balinese traditions and hospitality. In 2013, he started his cooking school to share authentic Balinese cuisine while also solving a practical challenge—finding a place to sell his organic produce. His school stands out as the only one in Bali with its own organic farm, ensuring every ingredient is fresh and locally grown. Wayan is committed to natural farming methods passed down for generations, supporting his community and preserving Bali’s rich agricultural heritage. He enjoys welcoming travellers, giving them a true taste of Balinese culture through food. His approach is simple: real ingredients, traditional techniques, and a warm, genuine experience.
