Hike and see the "blue flames" in Ijen!
Observe the ‘blue flames’ of Ijen Crater during a guided trek on Mt Ijen.Witness this extraordinary natural phenomenon in the darkness and later be treated to superb panoramic views from the rim of the Ijen Crater. You will get picked up from your hotel in Bali, it will take at least 4 hour drive to Gilimanuk Port (depends on your exact pick up location in Bali) then you will head to Mt Ijen.It takes about 2-3 hrs to reach the top of Mt Ijen at 2,386m. From there you will see only a few head torches in the crater below and will be able to make out the small patch of blue lava. After another 40 minutes and 800m down the slippy, gravel path you will arrive to the strong smelling sulphur. Here you will be able to observe the blue flames as sulphur is being flared. You will make your way back to the top just in time for sunrise. The sky here is particularly beautiful as the sun comes up turning various shades of pink. Once in day light you will be able to observe the crater from the rim as well as see a spectacularly turquoise crater lake.Do note, that this is still a working mine. As you go into the crater you will see miners going up and down with heavy loads of sulphur chunks. Be mindful of the tough work they are doing and allow them to pass.Health and Safety NotesHighly recommended to wear long pants, sports shoes, a sweater (sweatshirt or jumper) , gloves and hatNot recommended for participants with back problems, heart complaints, asthma or other serious medical conditionsNot recommended for pregnant womenNot wheelchair accessibleApproximate travel times with moderate trafficFrom Ubud - 5h40minFrom Canggu - 5h10minFrom Kuta - 5h45minFrom Seminyak - 5h40minFrom Uluwatu - 6h40min

Hi! I'm planning to book this event on 25/11/2024, I understand that a health certificate from a doctor is needed. Will this tour includes a trip to the clinic to get a health certificate? Or please advise where is the best clinic to get this certification in Bali?

Leanne, 22 Oct 2023
Hi Leanne,
It is now already open :)
Hello, I'm looking to book a blue flame ijen tour in end July, like 26/27 Jul. Will we be able to see the blue flames then?
Teresa, 10 May 2023
Hi Teresa,
Thank you for showing your interest in our Ijen Blue Flame Trek. We truly appreciate it. However, we regret to inform you that we cannot provide a certain guarantee on the possibility of seeing the blue fire during the trek at this moment. As per the latest information we have received, customers are allowed to access the crater, but they won't be able to see the blue fire due to the high water temperature that may release poisonous gas. Currently, there is no information available on when customers will be able to see the blue fire from a close distance.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this. However, we would like to suggest that you kindly contact us again in early July. By that time, we will be able to check the updated status of Ijen crater and blue fire. We will then provide you with the latest information and assist you in planning your trek accordingly.
Hi
I am looking to book a Ijen Blue Flame trek tour - my tentative date is on the 8th February 2023. May I know if it is advisable? Just wondering if Indonesia is forecasting rain during the period of 8th-11th.
Thank you.
Regards
Yvonne
Yvonne, 03 Feb 2023
Hi Yvonne,
We are able to accommodate your tour on 8th February as scheduled. However, I regret to inform you that due to a dangerous gas in the crater, it will not be possible to see the blue fire at this time.
Please be assured that you will still be able to enjoy the stunning view of the crater from the summit, which is a breathtaking experience in its own right.
