Stay by the river and spot wildlife on a boat trip and lake trek
If you’re coming to Cat Tien for the wildlife, this 2D1N stay gives you access to its most special trip: Crocodile Lake. This is where you trek deep into the park to look for Siamese crocodiles, one of Southeast Asia’s rarest crocodile species, in one of the last places in Vietnam where they still live in the wild. It’s not a quick roadside sighting. You get there with a 9km jeep ride and a 5km forest hike, so it feels like a real expedition rather than a standard park stop.Crocodile Lake is one of Cat Tien’s key conservation areas, so the wildlife here is what makes this stay stand out. Along with Siamese crocodiles, you may also spot water monitors, birds and, if you’re lucky, wild gaur. Just as important, you’re staying only 100m from the park entrance, which makes the early start easy and gives you more time in the forest.You’ll stay at a simple, family-run eco-lodge right by the Dong Nai River, with private ensuite rooms and river views. On the first evening, there’s a sunset boat ride along the river to look for monkeys, birds and other wildlife on the banks. Back at the lodge, meals are home-style and the setting is quiet and local.
