Dive Into Cacao Stories & Handcraft a Set of Signature Chocolates
If you're looking for something a little different in Da Lat, this bean-to-bar chocolate-making workshop is a real treat. Set in a peaceful valley surrounded by pine trees, this is the only place in Da Lat where you can learn how to turn cacao beans into delicious handmade chocolate from scratch. It’s hands-on, relaxing, and perfect for chocolate lovers who want something a bit more meaningful than just buying a bar off the shelf. What makes this workshop extra special is the setting and attention to detail. You’ll learn how chocolate is made, taste melt-in-your-mouth nama chocolate with Japanese flavours, and bring home your own handmade creations. It takes place in a beautiful forested hideaway that also happens to have a lovely on-site restaurant serving up proper Vietnamese and Western comfort food. Great for couples, families, or anyone looking to slow down, get creative, and indulge in seriously good chocolate. This is best for curious travellers who want a low-key, hands-on experience that connects them with local flavours and craft. Families will love the fun chocolate-making process (kids are absolutely welcome!), while grown-ups will appreciate the calm surroundings — and the hot chocolate. What to ExpectLearn the bean-to-bar chocolate-making process with guided, hands-on stepsTaste six different flavours of creamy nama chocolate made with Japanese methodsCreate and take home 12 pieces of your very own handmade chocolateOption to dine at the on-site restaurant after – serving both Vietnamese and Western dishesGood to KnowThe workshop lasts about 1.5 hours – easy to fit into a half-day in Da LatLocated about 30 minutes by car from Da Lat city – plan your travel time accordinglyThe experience is join-in and suitable for all ages, including children

Meet your host
Mr Nguyen Cong Chinh grew up in the bustling city of Saigon but found himself drawn to the peaceful beauty of Da Lat. In 2019, during a work trip, he came across a serene valley surrounded by lush pine forests. Captivated by its untouched charm, he decided to turn it into a special retreat where visitors could reconnect with nature and find balance. That’s how Balava—short for Balance Valley—was born in 2023. Beyond creating a peaceful getaway, Mr Chinh also supports the local community by providing jobs for ethnic minority residents in Lac Duong and organising social initiatives like "A Meal for Children," bringing warm meals and gifts to struggling schools in Lam Dong.
