5D4N Trek into Sabah's Lost World, one of the most untouched places on earth.
If you want to go somewhere that truly feels untouched, this is it.The 130-million-year-old Maliau Basin is one of the most remote and least disturbed rainforest ecosystems on Earth. Often called “Sabah’s Lost World,” it remained unknown to the outside world until a plane nearly flew into its mist-covered rim in 1947. Even today, it sees only a small number of trekkers each year. This 5D4N expedition takes you deep into that wilderness. After your first night at base camp — where jewelled ponds, rare wildlife and night safaris set the tone — you’ll begin trekking into the basin itself. Towering rainforest blocks out the sun. The only sounds are insects, distant birds and the rush of waterfalls. You’ll hike to Ginseng Falls and the dramatic 7-tiered Maliau Falls, one of the basin’s most powerful sights. The 5D4N trek includes an extra day hike to Nepenthes Camp that isn’t part of the 4D3N option. This takes you into heath forest filled with carnivorous pitcher plants and moss-covered trees. The hike is tougher — but you’ll be rewarded with wider canopy views and a more remote part of the basin that few visitors reach. This isn’t a luxury or Instagram-style trip. You probably won’t see big wildlife, and the accommodation is basic jungle lodging. The trails can be steep, with rope-assisted sections and long trekking days. It’s not glamorous - but it’s one of the most wild and raw adventures left. If you want to experience one of the most untouched rainforests on Earth, far from crowds and comfort, this is for you. What to Expect5 days deep inside Maliau BasinTreks to Ginseng & Maliau FallsExtra day hike to Nepenthes CampHeath forest & pitcher plantsNight safari at base campRemote jungle accommodationExperienced nature guideAll conservation & entrance fees included4WD access into the basinMeals, snacks & drinking water provided
