Snorkel a rare blue hole and sleep in one of Borneo's finest rainforest lodges.
This isn't just a stay in Danum Valley—it's a journey through two of Sabah's most extraordinary ecosystems. Start by snorkelling Blue Ring Reef, Malaysia's only known double marine blue hole, before heading inland for two nights at an intimate lodge deep within the 43,800-hectare Danum Valley Conservation Area. It's ideal for travellers who want to experience both Sabah's vibrant marine world and ancient rainforest in a single adventure. Most itineraries make you choose between sea and jungle. Here, you'll begin in Darvel Bay, exploring colourful coral gardens, Laila Reef and Pulau Baik, where a sunken Japanese cargo ship has become a thriving artificial reef. Then journey into one of the world's oldest rainforests, trading turquoise waters for canopy walks suspended 27 metres above the forest floor, jungle treks to the historic Coffin Cliff, a refreshing dip in the natural Jacuzzi Pool, and guided night safaris in search of Danum Valley's elusive nocturnal wildlife.Expert naturalist guides help bring the forest to life, sharing insights into its wildlife, ecology and hidden stories. Your stay also supports conservation and local communities through guide training, locally sourced ingredients, and ongoing research projects, including the Danum Orangutan Research Project. What to ExpectJoin-in 3D2N adventure combining Blue Ring Reef snorkelling and Danum ValleyReturn land transfers from Lahad Datu and return boat transfers to Blue Ring Reef, Laila Reef and Pulau Baik2 nights in an en-suite chalet at Borneo Rainforest LodgeGuided snorkelling with equipment providedGuided rainforest trek to Coffin Cliff, a scenic viewpoint and the Natural Jacuzzi PoolCanopy Walk on a 314-metre suspension walkway, 27 metres above the forest floor2 guided night walks or night drives (subject to weather conditions)Experienced marine and rainforest naturalist guides throughoutDaily meals from breakfast on Day 1 to lunch on Day 3Danum Valley Conservation Area entrance feesGood to KnowGuests who prefer to skip the snorkelling experience may opt for a direct transfer to Borneo Rainforest Lodge instead. This option is available as an add-on during booking, and is suitable for guests arriving later or who prefer to spend more time in Danum Valley.Suitable for travellers with moderate fitness; expect uneven jungle trails, humidity and some steep sections. The drive between Lahad Datu and Danum Valley takes approximately 2.5 hours each way.Bring walking shoes, swimwear, sun protection, rain gear, insect repellent and a reusable water bottle. Leech socks are recommended.Snorkelling and wildlife activities are weather and sea-condition dependent.Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, even in Danum Valley.Optional activities such as river rafting and jungle cycling are available at additional cost.Tips and personal expenses are not included.

Meet your host
The team behind this rainforest lodge has been welcoming travellers to Danum Valley since 1994, with a careful approach that protects the forest as much as it shares it. Set in a 130-million-year-old rainforest, the lodge was created to offer a rare combination of immersive nature and thoughtful comfort, giving guests access to one of Borneo's most pristine ecosystems without opening the door to mass tourism. They work closely with local communities by hiring and training local staff and expert nature guides, sourcing ingredients locally, and supporting conservation initiatives such as the Danum Orangutan Research Project. Even the lodge itself is designed to tread lightly, using natural ventilation, low-energy lighting, recycling, composting and chemical-free water treatment to minimise its environmental footprint.
