A Mediterranean cooking & dining experience in a gorgeous shophouse
Tucked away in the charming neighbourhood of Joo Chiat, you’ll step into a beautifully renovated Peranakan shophouse for a hands-on Mediterranean cooking session — then sit down to enjoy the delicious results in a private, homely setting. It's ideal for food lovers who prefer intimate, off-the-beaten-path experiences over commercial cooking schools. What sets this apart is the cosy, home kitchen setting and the personal touch. Al, your host, doesn’t just teach recipes — he shares stories and culinary tips passed down through generations of his Spanish-Moroccan family. With 35 years of experience, he makes the whole process relaxed and fun, whether you're a seasoned cook or a total beginner. Cooking here feels more like spending the afternoon with a friend than attending a class. This is perfect for small groups of friends, couples, families with older kids (12+), or anyone looking to connect with Mediterranean flavours in an authentic, meaningful way. Bonus: wine is available on request, and there's a vegetarian menu if that's more your style. What to ExpectLearn hands-on how to cook 4–5 dishes from Al’s repertoire — choose from Moroccan, Provencal, Turkish, Italian, Spanish or vegetarian menusCook in a warm, welcoming home kitchen surrounded by eclectic décor and stories from overseas adventuresEnjoy a relaxed meal in a beautiful dining space — or take your creations away if you preferGet practical culinary tips you can use at home (from dough rolling to perfecting your batter)Option to pair your meal with wine (available on request)Good to KnowRuns daily in two sessions: 10am–2pm & 3pm–7pmThe space suits groups of 4–5 for hands-on cooking, but can host up to 8 guestsChildren aged 12 and above are welcomeFull vegetarian menus available — other dietary restrictions can be catered to with advance noticeThe home is located in Joo Chiat, one of Singapore’s most characterful and historic neighbourhoodsAprons are provided

Meet your host
Med@59JCT is a venture born from Natalie's and Al's passion for food & wine and for Joo Chiat. They are both long-term residents of Joo Chiat and have contributed to and witnessed first-hand the evolution of what is today one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Singapore. Their first experience was launched in 2021 with Med@59JCT, a private dining concept centered around Al's Mediterranean culinary heritage and the beautifully renovated Peranakan shophouse they inhabit.
