See Singapore's most biodiverse space, where indigenous wildlife has returned
Behind an HDB in Woodlands, something extraordinary is happening, led by ordinary people. It began with a simple idea: what if we replanted Singapore with its indigenous plants, and let nature decide what came back? So the community started planting - no decorative gardens or manicured rows, but a garden designed for insects, birds, and predators.Nature responded fast.Today, eagles circle overhead (a good sign when predators come back!). Rare damselflies survive here after disappearing elsewhere. And this single community garden is now home to more butterfly species than the ENTIRE UK.This private guided experience takes you inside one of Singapore’s most successful rewilding experiments - a nine-storey, community-built garden designed entirely for biodiversity. It’s living proof that nature can recover quickly when we stop designing only for ourselves, and when people act instead of waiting for institutions. You’ll explore the garden with Wilson, who knows every corner and creature like an old companion. As he leads you through the trails, he’ll point out hidden gems like the Fiery Coraltail damselfly - a rare but incredible species as they are extremely effective mosquito controllers! After suffering habitat losses because of urban development, this is now one of the only spaces you can still find them and admire them up-close.Wilson will also introduce you to a citizen-science app that allows you to document the wildlife you spot. It’s a simple, meaningful way to contribute to ongoing research and prove that restoration works! This experience matters because it answers a big question many of us quietly hold: Is what we’ve lost gone for good? This garden says no.And it shows what’s possible when people stop waiting, and start rewilding the spaces we already have. What to ExpectGuided exploration of a volunteer-run 9-storey botanical garden built to support wildlife, not peopleSpot butterflies, bees, birds, and even rare damselflies – possibly your first time seeing them in the wildUse the iNaturalist app to identify and log your wildlife discoveries, contributing real data to a global biodiversity databaseHear inspiring stories behind the garden’s transformation from barren hill to biodiversity havenLearn simple, impactful ways to support biodiversity at home through generous gardeningPot and bring home your very own plant, grown from garden trimmings like Portulaca and AlternantheraEnjoy light refreshments during the experienceNo fitness level required – just be comfortable with a gentle uphill walk
