A rare chance to explore the world of a practising Singaporean artist.
Most of us have walked through galleries and admired artworks from afar. Few of us ever get to step inside the studio where those works are actually made.Few artists ever open their studios to the public, and this is a rare invitation into the world of Singapore glass artist Tan Sock Fong.Over the course of 3 hours, you'll spend time in Sock Fong's working studio, surrounded by her artworks, tools and creative process. As she shares stories from her decades-long career, you'll gain a glimpse into the realities of being a practising artist in Singapore — the experimentation, precision, patience and craft behind every finished piece. You'll then create your own substantial 300mm glass centrepiece under her guidance. Using the same techniques found in professional glass studios, you'll cut and shape design elements, work with crushed glass to create texture and colour, and learn how artists transform fragile materials into lasting works of art. The final dish is professionally prepared to ensure a beautiful finished form, allowing you to focus on the creative decisions that make each piece uniquely yours. What makes this experience special isn't just what you make — it's who you make it with.Sock Fong has spent decades helping shape Singapore's glass art scene, with works exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum and commissioned for public spaces across the country. Few artists open their studios to the public in such an intimate way. By the end of the afternoon, you'll leave not only with a striking glass artwork for your home, but with a deeper appreciation of the artistic practice, discipline and imagination behind every piece of glass art. What to ExpectIntroduction to a local Glass ArtistBe introduced to glass art and how the medium worksHands-on practice cutting glassCreate your own patterns on your glass pieceCrush glass for extra textureThorough cleaning of glass piece to prepare for firingSee the artist’s completed works and current studio piecesGood to KnowCollection of the finished piece will be arranged separately with the artist once the firing is finished
