Step inside a master glass artist’s studio and make your own statement piece
You might not think of Singapore as a place for artisans, but tucked away around the city are people who have spent decades mastering their craft. Your host Sock Fong, a Master glass artist is one of them. She's a pioneer of Singapore’s glass art scene whose works have been exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum and commissioned for public spaces around the country.For 3 hours, Sock Fong opens up her working studio to you. Surrounded by her artworks, tools and experiments, you’ll hear how she got into the unusual world of glass art, what she’s learnt from decades of working with such a tricky material, and see how she actually creates her pieces.Then she’ll teach you. You’ll cut and shape glass, layer colours and crushed glass for texture, and create your own substantial 30cm centrepiece using techniques from her own practice. Your finished piece is then fired in her kiln.What makes this really special is Sock Fong herself. She’s spent decades obsessed with glass, experimenting with it and making it her life’s work. And instead of just seeing her finished pieces in a gallery, you get to hang out in her studio, hear her stories and have her teach you herself. Meet your host
Tan Sock Fong is one of Singapore’s pioneering glass artists and the founder of the Art Glass Centre, a dedicated studio space devoted to the craft of contemporary glass art. She designs and crafts contemporary glass sculptures, both for the studio's collection and for major clients including the 28th Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Television Awards. Her studio is both a working artistic space and a welcoming environment where guests can experience the creative process up close. Through her workshops, she hopes to make glass art feel approachable, inspiring, and deeply personal.
