A rare chance to explore the world of a practising Singaporean artist.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s actually like to be a working artist in Singapore, this is a rare chance to step right into that world. Hosted in the studio of renowned local glass artist Tan Sock Fong, this glass art experience feels less like an intimate behind-the-scenes look into a lifelong artistic practice. With over 20 years of experience, Sock Fong’s works have been exhibited at institutions like the Singapore Art Museum and spaces including Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Learning directly from her means gaining insight not just into glassmaking techniques, but into the precision, patience, and artistic thinking behind the craft itself. In 3 hours, you’ll create a substantial 300mm glass piece - either a sculptural dish or an elegant glass corbeille ajourée (netted basket) for fruits and snacks - designed to become a true centrepiece in your home. You’ll cut, shape, clean, and assemble your work by hand, while experimenting with techniques professional glass artists actually use. Every design is personalised, so your final piece feels expressive and one-of-a-kind.Beyond the workshop itself, you’ll get to explore Sock Fong’s working studio, see her current artworks up close, and glimpse the realities of being an artist in Singapore today. It’s immersive, inspiring, and the kind of experience that stays with you long after the glass has cooled. What to ExpectIntroduction to art glass and how the medium worksHands-on practice cutting glassLearn two mould-making methodsThorough cleaning of glass piece to prepare for firingCreate your own patterns on your glass pieceSee the artist’s completed works and current studio piecesGood to KnowCollection of the finished piece will be on another day
