Discover Singapore's tiny critters on a nature trail with expert entomologist
[Limited spots in March & April] Did you know that Singapore’s parks are crawling with jewel-like beetles, perfectly camouflaged mantises, and creatures so tiny most of us walk right past them? On this guided insect trail led by an expert entomologist, you’ll uncover a whole micro-world beneath the leaves and along the forest floor. Hear wild stories about Singapore’s native and naturalised arthropods, understand the crucial role they play in our ecosystem, and learn how scientists actually find and identify species in the wild. But this isn’t just observing, it’s hands-on discovery. Using your own phone and a clip-on macro lens, you’ll learn how to capture stunning close-up shots of insects, revealing details invisible to the naked eye. You’ll also upload your sightings to iNaturalist, contributing to real conservation research. And who knows, you might even be the one to document a species never recorded in Singapore before! What to ExpectA guided walk through Windsor Nature Park.Discover local insect biodiversity with an expert entomologist.Use a clip-on macro lens to take close-up photos of the tiny critters with your phone.Learn about how citizen science can help to conserve insects and support biodiversity.Good to KnowThe walk lasts about 2.5 hours and is suitable for most fitness levels, age 5 years and above.A clip-on macro lens for insect photography is provided. If using insect repellent, participants are to spray it at home before coming to minimise our chemical footprint. Avoid spraying anything on hands as we may come in contact with plants and insects along the trail. The trail involves some walking on uneven terrain, so proper footwear is a must.Wildlife sightings depend on season and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather, the situation will be assessed 45 minutes before the walk. If the weather is too wet, the walk will be postponed. Bringing a small umbrella or raincoat is highly recommended.
