Review Body: We had a great experience visiting Mount Bromo. Our guide was brilliant and explained everything to us. He took firstly to Mount Bromo where we watched the sunrise and climbed up to look into the volcano. Then we went to a viewpoint to see the volcano from further back. It was really awesome and our guide make it even better. He was kind, chatty and took lots of photos for us.
We stayed a night at the homestay which was good. It's basic but has everything you need and the weather is cool enough that you don't need aircon. They have a small food menu- the food is delicious and super cheap! I would highly recommend this tour

Review Body: We did a 2-day tour to Mount Bromo, Tumpak Sewu, and Madakaripura Waterfalls with Seek Sophie & Boyo Tour and Travel. The trip was truly fantastic! The tour was very well organized and customized according to our wishes. Even beforehand, we received excellent support from Olivia (customer service) during the planning and whenever we had questions – she was always available to help us. The drivers, guides, and accommodation over the two days were also great. We felt very well taken care of and would highly recommend this organization to everyone!

Review Body: Everything was well organized. There was a misunderstanding with a booked ad-on, but we got the refund within hours.
Mt Bromo was too touristic for us. Too many cars, people and garbage. Don’t go there on weekends, then it might be a little bit better.

Review Body: This tour was an unforgettable adventure, offering an amazing blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. While the accommodations aren’t luxurious, they were clean, comfortable, and perfect for a trip focused on exploring rather than resort-style stays. The itinerary is all about immersing yourself in nature, and I truly appreciated that.
We requested to eat at some local warungs instead of fancy restaurants, and our main guide, Yogi, took us to some amazing spots. The food was authentic and delicious, and you could really feel the love and care that went into preparing each meal. It was such a great way to connect with the local way of life and enjoy the true flavors of the region.
The guides were incredibly helpful, adaptive to our needs, and always went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. For instance, the guide at Tumpak Sewu Waterfall took some incredible videos for us, constantly wiping the mist off our phones to make sure we captured every moment.
The Ijen trek was tough, but it was one of the most rewarding hikes I’ve done. Although we encountered a few challenges along the way (like the flames being put out and the lake being closed for safety reasons), the guides worked hard to adapt and still made sure we had a great experience. The views at the top of Ijen were absolutely spectacular, and the trek itself was something I will always remember.
This trip was also perfect for our teenage kids, who absolutely loved the experience. They were fully immersed in the adventure and enjoyed every part of it, from the hikes to the cultural encounters. Even simple stops at Indo Mart and Alpha Mart became highlights for the kids—they loved seeing local snacks and drinks and experiencing everyday life in Indonesia.
Tips for Future Guests:
Don’t Expect Luxury: This is a trip focused on nature and adventure, not a resort stay. Accommodations are simple but comfortable—perfect for the experience you’re after.
Be Ready for a Tough Trek: The Ijen trek is challenging, but it’s worth every bit of effort.
A Trekking Pole: A trekking pole would be very useful for the Ijen trek—it provides extra stability, especially on the steeper sections.
Go With the Flow: Some things might not go as planned (like Ijen’s closed lake), but the guides are excellent at making adjustments and ensuring you still get the most out of every experience.
Immerse Yourself in the Culture: If you're into local culture, request to eat at some of the warungs instead of the more touristy spots. Yogi took us to some hidden gems that gave us a deeper connection to Indonesian culture.
Capture the Moments: Take advantage of the opportunity for photos and videos. The guides are great at helping you capture the best moments, even under tricky conditions.
Get Some Rest During the Drives: The drives can be long and winding, so make sure to get some sleep during the journey to recharge for the next adventure!
Travel Sickness: If you're prone to travel sickness, make sure to carry some medicine with you as some of the drives can be winding and long.
Ijen Trek – For Small Kids or Older People: If you're traveling with small kids or older people, or those who might struggle with the tough trek, you can use the "Lamborghini or Ferrari" service at Ijen to assist. This option helps get less able travelers up the slopes and down, but it’s a bit expensive—about 1.5 million IDR. It requires three people to help one tourist, but it's a good option if you need extra support.
If you're looking for an immersive, challenging, and rewarding adventure, I highly recommend this tour. It’s a perfect fit for families, especially those with teenage kids!

Review Body: I loved from the first touch that I got with the team their flexibility and openess, no matter how many questions I got haha. It was a bit hard for us since we were on a tight schedule, but they make it possible! We did rainbow village and the waterfall in the first day, Ijen mountain second day and Bromo mountain the last to be as close as possible to the airport(Surabaya). For those interested to come in this trip, there are also some sleeperbuses connecting Bali with Surabaya or Malang. Java is a muslim country so make sure to dress appropiate. Our driver, Rizky, was a very nice person, although he didnt know too much English, he took us to some amazing places to eat (ask for the Lava Hill Resort restaurant&cafe when you are at your accomodation to Bromo). You can rent your mountain jackets at Ijen and Bromo for the price of 30k IDR(1,50€) so dont carry it with you(if you can). They have scarfs and hats too if needed. For the waterfall prepare to get real wet so get a waterproof small bag to carry some napkins to wipe off the screens of the cameras. The guide received in there was very involved in making the photos and videos and he even did a nice memory video with us. Thank you! There are also some bathrooms where you can change your clothes after. You can rent water shoes too (20K IDR). Prepare small cash with you as you can eat and drink something after you re done with the waterfall. As for the accomodations they were very comfortable, except that the hotel where we stayed for our Ijen trip didnt had hot water which after you re doing a cold trip to the mountain was very much needed. The second accomodation had everything you needed, but heads up the walls are super thin so bring some earplugs to fall asleep easily and get ready for the early wake up. The breakfast was indonesian at the hotel. The second breakfast was omlette and fruits. Anyway, you can stop anytime and get to try more authentic snacks so for us was no problem. The nature that we saw in this trip is trully breathtaking and its worth all the sleeping time sacrificed!
P.S.: if you have only hand luggage be aware that you will not be allowed to travel with the Ijen sulfur souvenirs 😅

Review Body: My partner and I took the 4D3N Tumpak/bromo/ijen tour with a private driver and could not recommend this enough.
Over the course of the 4 days, we were driven by Achmad (Azim) - who was extremely accommodating with our requests throughout and forthcoming with any information we required. Specifically, on the first evening Achmad agreed to eat with us at our request and provided a comprehensive run through of the days ahead as well as talking to us about his own life in Indonesia and window into the local way of life.
Each tour had its own benefits, in each case accompanied by very knowledgeable English speaking guides. Particularly during the Ijen tour where our guide went above and beyond in difficult conditions to ensure we were one of the first to summit the mountain and see the blue flame - which many other groups subsequently missed out on.
For future guests, my only advice would be to ensure you’re fully aware of the physical demands of the activities you’re signing up for prior to booking.
Tumpak sewu required a steep climb out of the waterfall valley, whilst Bromo also required a reasoned degree of fitness to first climb the viewpoint and then later the crater itself. However, by far the most challenging activity is the final Ijen climb - particularly after three days of long drives and little sleep.
With regards to Boyo tours, I don’t believe there could be a better alternative available should you want to do this style of tour. Every effort was made to accommodate our travel arrangements; requests were actioned promptly and communication was strong throughout.
Prior to attending the tour some previous reviews I read referenced the standard of accommodations. For me, the three seperate home stays we used were more than suitable - clean beds, hot showers and plenty of room - far exceeding previous such tours we have taken in Vietnam or the Philippines.
NB - on first evening in Tumpak Sewu, ensure to eat at Resto Sambas a short walk/drive from the Homestay. This was genuinely one of the best meals we ate in Indonesia to date and the family running the business were fantastic.

Review Body: Was looking for a 3D2N Bromo, Ijen tour and compared close to 10 agencies and eventually landed on this.
Day 1: Was picked up at airport and headed straight to Grand Whiz Hotel Bromo. Journey took close to 5 hours. Hotel had subpar cleanliness but most tourists are here for the hike. Woke at 330am and back to hotel around 9am.
Day 2: Long journey to Kampong Joglo Ijen, lasting around 6-7 hours. You have the choice of waking at 1am if you want to catch the blue fire, or slightly later if you just want to catch the sunrise. It is difficult to catch the blue fire and the locals said that they haven't seen one in 2023 yet.
Day 3: Dropped off at Ketepang port as we were heading to Bali thereafter.
Pros:
- Competitive price
- Very friendly guide. Special mention to our Driver Aang, and our Ijen guide Yono
- The boss of Boyo Tour and Travel was very responsive and accommodating. He also arranged for transportation for us from Gilimanuk Port (Bali) to Canggu Beach at a fee.
- Amazing photos of the places we visited
Cons:
- Accomodation could be improved. Grand Whiz Hotel wasn't very clean and was difficult to find the right temperature for shower. Was located 1hr away from the trekking start point. Kampong Joglo Ijen had dim lights but shower was better. However the WiFi in the room was nonexistent and we had to use the lobby WiFi. Was located 1hr away from trekking start point.
- Driver spoke limited English but he's really friendly and nice, all these were overcome with Google translate
Things you must know before booking
- Don't expect to get much sleep for this tour, but you can make up for it during the commute
- Wear proper hiking shoes as the terrain can get slippery. bring heat tech, windbreaker, and a scarf to shield the dust/wind. temp plummeted to 6 deg.
- Intercity commutes can get long and tiring, lasting up to 8hrs during jams.

Review Body: WOW wow wow! This trip was INCREDIBLE! Our driver was Galang, and he was amazing. He was very patient, and was very helpful. He would always stop when we needed on long drives for lunch, and snacks and the bathroom. He was incredibly kind. He also drove very safe and we always felt comfortable and taken care of. Also it was so good to do this tour instead of doing something ourselves as it was very well organized and we always had a guaranteed driver. The drives in between were long- but we are a big group of friends and talked on the drives, slept to catch up on sleep from the early morning hikes which was awesome, and played card games which made the drives enjoyable.
As for the tour itself, all the sites are BEAUTIFUL and once in a lifetime. I am unsure why some of the reviews say that the home stays were not nice, because we felt very comfortable and very safe. The home stays are not fancy by any means (but that’s what makes it fun), but they are very cute and comfortable.
I would highly suggest doing this tour at the BEGINNING of your trip, as you likely won’t be adjusted to the time change (if you have a big one)- and that way it was easier to fall asleep earlier and wake up earlier for the hikes. Mount bromo is not a very long hike like 30 mins but has stairs so definitely some good cardio. Mount ijen is about an hour - 1.5 hours to the top and that hike was very steep. Just make sure to take breaks when you need, and you will be more than fine. There are also 6 checkpoints with water and snacks and a bathroom about halfway up, so it is good for breaks.
Overall, I would do this tour again and again. The views and experience was truly amazing and worth it all. All the guides on the hikes also took so many pictures of us which was great so we didn’t need to worry much about taking pictures. 100000/10!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Review Body: Everything was smooth from the get-go: the booking experience itself on the website and getting an almost immediate follow-up via WhatsApp to confirm pick-up and drop-off details. Communication was smooth and replies were always prompt. Also super glad that they were able to include one more location into the itinerary per my request to Madakaripura Waterfalls (at additional cost).
Instructions were clear and driver was friendly throughout the 4 days and very skilled to cover long distances and regulate his way around traffic. Felt safe and taken care of each step of the way. Car was also clean and comfortable (caveat, I was a solo traveller so had all the space to myself).
The different venue / location guides (Tumpak Sewu with Pak Min, Bromo with Ricky and Ijen with Ahmed) were also great at leading and showing me around the sites and value added by taking gorgeous photos and videos (you can tell they are trained as they know the best spots and poses to recommend even if you’re an awkward turtle like me in front of any camera).
The hotels / accommodations were also ok - clean and not too shabby. Just don’t expect 5-Star luxury comforts with bathtubs and rainshowers- this is not that kind of trip. What was most important was they were clean, had hot showers and working air-conditioners to beat the heat and had an attached restaurant you could order food from. Basic essentials sorted.
I had an excellent time and highly recommend this trip (:
In the meantime enjoy some photos of my #legotravelcompanion #boywithbackpack at each of the 5 locations (Rainbow Village, Tumpak Sewu, Bromo, Madakaripura & Ijen)
P/S - keen to explore other parts of Indonesia now especially Nusa Timur Tenggara Timur!

Review Body: I honestly couldn’t recommend this trip enough. From start to finish, everything was incredibly well organised, making the whole experience completely stress-free.
A huge thank you to our main guide, Bayu, who was absolutely fantastic throughout the entire trip. He was so friendly, approachable and genuinely cared that everyone had the best possible experience. He always made sure we were comfortable, kept us informed about what was happening next, and created such a fun atmosphere within the group.
The rest of the guides were equally brilliant. They were always looking out for our safety, especially during the hikes, while also going above and beyond to help everyone take amazing photos at each destination. They knew all the best viewpoints and happily took countless pictures for us, which made the experience even more memorable.
One of the biggest advantages of booking this package is how effortless it makes everything. Accommodation, transport between all the destinations, much of the food, and even specialist equipment like the gas masks for Ijen are all included (though you have to rent shoes for Tumpak Sewu). It meant we could simply enjoy the trip without worrying about organising logistics ourselves.
Every stop was stunning, from Tumpak Sewu to Bromo and Ijen, and the entire itinerary was so well planned. It struck a great balance between adventure, sightseeing and comfort.
Overall, this was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. The organisation was excellent, the guides were amazing, and Bayu really made the trip special. I’ve already recommended this package to friends, and I’ll continue recommending it to anyone thinking of visiting East Java. You won’t regret booking it!

Review Body: This was 3D2N trip to Tumpak Sewu, Bromo and Ijen (in this order). Perfectly organized pick up from Surabaja, transfers between hotels and drop off to Malang; timely but with flexibility to give us as much time in case we needed it The driver spoke little English but tried his best also with Google Translate - enough for simple communication but do not count on a lot of conversation during the transfers.
Tumpak Sewu - very nice guide speaking good English and willing to explain things. The waterfalls are gorgeous. You can also see the Goa waterfalls and cave if you ask the guide and buy additional ticket. It is in the same location and worth seeing, I think. Please remember you will have best fun if you get totally wet. Dress accordingly abd change your clothes afterwards 😀.
Bromo - crowded at the sunrise viewpoint but everyone took the picture eventually :) , well maybe not everyone at the perfect moment. The hike after the sunrise also with amazing views.
Ijen - great adventure. The hike to the crater and then down and up may be strenuous. Take your time to rest. The smell is not so bad as you have a mask but your eyes may be burning if the wind will bring dense smoke on you. This is not a big deal as you can easily move away from this by making just a few steps . You can get a torch if you do not have one (it is needed indeed). We were able to see the blue fires but we were lucky. The guide was English speaking and helpful. We were late to climb up from the crater to see the sunrise and our guide decided to wait for the sunrise down in the crater, very beautiful view on the lake down there also.

Review Body: From start to finish this was an amazing experience. Of course tumpak sewu, bromo and ijen were amazing, but what really made this tour were our guides and driver :)
From pick up, our driver Eng met us with a sign and took us straight to get some lunch after our long journey. Eng was a delight from start to finish, to making us laugh, to driving slowly when we were sleeping & stopping at multiple toilets/supermarkets across the 4 days. His English was great, it definitely exceeded what we were expecting from the description.
Eng’s personality was infectious, and each stop we went to he had a lot of friends, this got us talking to everyone! The car was comfortable, with seats already reclined and a little pillow.
A special thanks to each one of our guides; Rizal, Quin and Iza! All spoke great English with great knowledge of their areas, not to mention their talented photography :)
Overall, our homestays were all lovely, clean big beds, aircon and working showers and toilets, we slept very well in each one.
The early starts are hard, and the hikes are challenging (although really not as bad as some people say), but when everything is prepared for you and you have high energy guides with you, it’s a great experience.
From what I have heard of other tours, they cram a lot more in, with harsher check out times and itinerary’s. We loved being able to do what we wanted at all times, especially taking longer at viewpoints for pictures & drone shots!

Review Body: I had made an enquiry with Seek Sophie for a private transport for a day to attend a wedding in the village of Kediri.
The responses was really fast and after making payment. I was directed to Boyo Tour and Travel.
Adhi responded to my queries pretty much instantly. His English is great and arrangements were done quickly.
Adhi was assuring that I would be on time, vectoring in traffic within Surabaya, etc. It helped that he was familiar with Kediri area.
Chats with Adhi about food, Javanese traditional weddings, religion in different parts of Indonesia, Mt Bromo, cheap tyres that caused trucks to flip over. It was enjoyable and educational for me.
Also, I find Adhi to be very responsible.
Due to the heat and glare from the sun and straight road driving. He made a detour to wash his face to freshen up and took a short coffee break, as the condition was tiring him out on the way back.
I felt safe throughout the journey as I knew that I was in good hands of a responsible person.
The car was clean and comfortable and there were small bottles of water placed by the door.
I have plans for Mt Bromo next. I know who to call :) :)

Review Body: All three hikes: Tumpak Sewu waterfall, Mt. Bromo, and Mt. Ijen, were worth doing. Such beautiful scenery and impressive landscapes. The start times each morning get progressively earlier, and the ordering of the hikes means that you build up stamina as the days go on, so you can sort of ease into the routine. Once you've finished each hike in the morning, there's some time to pack up and check out, drive to the next location, and just relax for the whole afternoon/evening.
It's 120m down (and back up) along slippery steps to the bottom of Tumpak Sewu waterfall. The Mt. Bromo trip has two hikes - one to a viewpoint to watch the sunlight hit Mt. Bromo at sunrise, followed by another to climb to the rim of the crater, but both are fairly quick, and the jeep ride between them makes it manageable. The Mt. Ijen hike was probably the most difficult, but there are plenty of stops along the way.
Our driver, Heri, was brilliant, and the accommodation for each night was great. If you're short on time and want to see the best natural spots in East Java (as well as the rainbow village in Malang), this tour is the right one to choose.

Review Body: We had an amazing experience hiking Mount Ijen, and a huge part of what made the trip so memorable was our guides, Johnny and Jay.
From the very beginning, they made sure everyone felt safe, comfortable, and included. They took the time to remember all of our names and constantly checked in on us throughout the hike to make sure everyone was doing well. Their attentiveness and genuine care really stood out, especially during the more challenging parts of the hike.
Beyond looking after us, Johnny and Jay were also incredibly friendly and made a real effort to ensure that everyone was having a good time. They even helped us take some great photos along the way, giving us wonderful memories to bring home.
Guides like Johnny and Jay are what make an experience like this truly special. Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication made our Mount Ijen trip one that we will remember for a long time. We felt they absolutely deserved to be recognised and commended for the fantastic job they did.
Also special mention to our driver, Pang, excellent service and driving throughout all 3 days with no delays.

Review Body: It was perfectly organized, you’re taken by the hand and driven through the activities by the english speaking guides (even though you’re with a non-english speaking driver for most of the trip). He new the minimum to help us out though. Hotels are fine, you don’t stay there for long anyway. Breakfasts at the hotels are meh.
The only thing I really didn’t like -and it’s independent of the trip organiser- is that you shouldn’t underestimate how much driving this trip requires. Basically you wake up super early (at 1 am for ijen and 3 am for bromo) and then discover amazing stuff for a few hours and then drive a lot to the next place. Add to that the eventual traffic, and you can get stuck for up to 12 hours in a single day in a car - as we had to. So the ratio fun to driving really is against you. Again, not the fault of the organizer (the driver was really resilient and nice!), but to keep in mind. Apart from that the organiser brings a lot of peace of mind, everything is laid up before you and you don’t have to worry about anything. We appreciated the mind free, secure and comfy trip

Review Body: Our trip was very well planned, with enough spacing between events to make it both enjoyable and relaxing. The driver assigned to us was exceptionally friendly, punctual, and cheerful throughout. He not only kept us on schedule but also went out of his way to help us find great places to eat and made sure we were comfortable at every stop.
The itinerary helped us make the most of our three days in Indonesia — we managed to see two volcanoes and one breathtaking waterfall without ever feeling rushed. The checkpoints and pacing ensured we had time to rest and recuperate between activities.
At each of the tourist spots we visited, the local guides were wonderful — friendly, knowledgeable, and surprisingly talented photographers. They helped us capture some truly beautiful pictures and made sure we looked our best in every shot.
Overall, I would highly recommend the itinerary and the agency. Every touchpoint — from the staff to the driver to the local guides — reflected friendliness, helpfulness, and genuine care for making sure we had a great time.

Review Body: Guides and drivers are excellent. Guides are amazing photographers and video editors. Itinerary well planned and customised to our flight schedules. Transition between each point was seamless. For the waterfall, you are going INSIDE the water (knee deep, optional chest deep) pls bring water shoes/crocs (do not recommend flip flops because they will easily get washed away). Also recommend to haggle directly for horse fees at bromo (our driver took a tip from our horse journey fee and thought we didn’t know. Someone got it for 150k, can consider). Mount Bromo and ijen will be super cold when u get off the car (layer up) but once u start hiking, will get really hot so remove your layers and bring a bag to contain your layers. We paid 50k each for ?health check for mt ijen, but we never got our healths checked or receive any cert or anything at all, so not sure what’s up there 😂 all in all still highly recommend, great experience at great value, effortless and brainless, just follow instructions, everything is arranged seamlessly for you

Review Body: The experience was amazing! Well worth getting up in the middle of the night. We had a very comfortable transport from Malang to a village close to Bromo. After a short wait we continued by jeep. The driver got us as close as possible to a good viewpoint. We were early (4.00am) which was good because it get busy. We didn’t realized getting to the viewpoint involved a steep climb of about 30 min. But it was really worth to see the sun come up and see this magical landscape appear. Our driver got us a bit more uphill, away from the actual viewpoint. The view there was even better and we were allmost alone. After the sunrise we climbed up to the Bromo crater. Again a steep 30 min walk and climb. But what an experience to be on the edge of an active vulcano crater. Again we were early at the crater and did not stay at the viewpoint too long. Also at the crater it gets very busy. We finished with a nice breakfast and our driver then brought is all the way to Ketapang to continue our trip to Bali. Really great experience!
