Cycle Through Real Village Life in Tembi Village
This relaxed cycling tour takes you through the quiet backroads of Tembi Village, where daily life unfolds in rice fields, small markets and family homes. It’s not about ticking off sights. It’s about noticing things - farmers planting rice, kids biking to school, neighbours chatting in front yards.Your guides are from the village and fluent in English. They don’t just lead the way - they explain what you’re seeing, share stories, and help you connect the dots. You’ll visit parts of the village most visitors never see, including a local artist collective where traditional crafts like batik and eco-printing are still practised.Your visit will also support the local community here. Tembi is one of the few villages near Yogyakarta that has intentionally preserved its rural character while welcoming small-scale tourism. Instead of big attractions, it’s known for its rice fields, traditional homes and small artist communities. Tourism here directly supports local families rather than large operators. The pace is easy and relaxed - perfect for anyone who prefers a chilled experience, including families with kids! What to ExpectCycling through lush rice paddies and village roads at a relaxed paceInteraction with friendly locals and glimpses of daily village lifeVisit to a local arts community known for batik and eco-printing demonstrationsOption to choose a morning or afternoon tour (morning is cooler and less likely to rain)Suitable for most fitness levels—just keep in mind it’s mostly flat terrain, manageable for beginnersHelmets and bicycles are provided; however, please bring sun protection and comfortable clothes

Leksa Ganesha is a warm, welcoming artist collective tucked away in the peaceful village of Tembi, just outside Yogyakarta. Founded by Tatang Elmy Wibowo and Aprat Koeswadji, it sits beside Tatang’s family home – a place where his father once created batik before tending to the rice fields. The gallery brings together a talented group of local batik artists, offering them a space to share their work and stay connected to their craft. More than just a gallery, Leksa Ganesha is part of a resilient village rebuilt after the 2016 earthquake, where every visit helps support both the artists and the wider community. It’s a genuine, down-to-earth place rooted in tradition and local pride.
