Itinerary: Labuan Bajo - Padar Island - Komodo Island - Pink Beach - Taka Makassar - Kanawa Island - Manta Point
Labuan Bajo - Padar Island - Komodo Island - Pink Beach - Taka Makassar - Kanawa Island - Manta Point

Today you will get to snorkel and also take a peak into the lives of the endangered Komodo Dragons

  • Anywhere in Labuan Bajo (Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia) - 15 mins before
  • 5:20am - 5:45am: Transfer to a speed boat Visit to Padar Island. Hike to the top of Padar Island to see the most iconic view of Komodo National Park. It's a short but steep, 30-minute hike, and well worth it!
  • Head to Komodo Island to trek and spot the wild Komodo Dragons! Of the 5,700 Komodo Dragons in Komodo National Park, about 1,727 of them live on Komodo Island.
  • Then head to Pink Beach. This aptly named beach is peppered with red coral, giving it a light pink hue. Only a handful of places in the world have this natural phenomenon!
  • Head to Taka Makassar, a small sandbar located near to Komodo Island and Manta Point. This island is a worthy destination, especially for snorkelling.
  • Snorkel at Manta Point. Also known as Makassar Reef, this is a well-known snorkelling/diving spot to encounter Manta Rays. Best time for Mantas is from December to February.
  • Head to Kanawa Island. This is a beautiful island with clear waters and colourful corals.
This is a sample itinerary and may be weather-dependent.

Our guides were on time in picking us from our hotel in the morning. The entire journey from our hotel to the jetty and boat was very smooth and organised. All together, there were 6 of us in the speedboat. I think it was good that we ended up in the small speedboat as we could travel faster and get to the destinations before the crowd. The places were beautiful and the guides were very flexible in terms of timing. They allowed to stay at places where we wanted to spend more time and was happy to move on to the next place which we all agreed to leave early. Enjoyed chatting with the guides. All in all, it was very safe and enjoyable.

Incredibly professional crew - showed up right on time for pick up, gave a good briefing at every stop, and were very flexible and caring. We went with my elderly parents and they helped them up Padar and just made sure they were cared for. Really amazing trip and fantastic crew!!

Helpful Questions from Our Community

Q
How much are Komodo National Park fees?
A
Komodo National Park fees are complicated. They depend on: the islands visited (which is weather dependent), whether it's a weekday or a weekend, whether the guest is a foreigner or a local, and the number of people on the boat (as ranger fees are shared). This is why no two people will tell you the same number when asked about fees! The fees are also complicated by the fact that they're set by the national government and paid directly to Jakarta. So there is little visibility on changes from time to time. This is why we usually advise international guests to bring cash of between IDR 350K to IDR 460K per person per day for weekdays and between IDR 400K to IDR 520K per person per day for weekends. This is more than you need, but it avoids you ending up short of cash if the boat doesn't have too many people or the fees suddenly change! A few of our trips include the fees in the price. You can see it listed in the inclusion list. If this is the case there is no need to bring cash with you.
Q
Can I still visit Komodo National Park in Jan-March rainy season?
A
While you can still visit Komodo National Park during the rainy season in Jan-March, there is a higher risk of boat trips being cancelled due to the weather. The risk is lowest for the 1-day speedboats (as they are more stable) so if you are going Jan-March, we would highly recommend doing a 1-day speedboat trip. Although the 2D1N trips and some 3D2N trips are still sailing during the rainy season, there is a slightly higher risk that they might be cancelled due to the weather. Given the unpredictability of the weather, the cancellation could happen at any time (even the morning of the trip). We will keep you updated as soon as we can if the weather prediction is not favourable for your trip. If your trip is cancelled due to the weather, you can choose to receive a full refund, OR reschedule your trip for the next day (if weather permits). So if you're travelling from Jan-March to Komodo, please plan some extra days for your trip so you have additional days to try again, even if your original trip is cancelled!
Q
Is the itinerary guaranteed?
A
The itinerary for Komodo National Park is very weather dependent, as the journey takes place out in open waters. Some days the currents are very strong, and it might not be safe to go to certain islands. We know this can be frustrating if you had your heart set on specific spots, but please be assured that the boat operators will do their very best to make sure you see the dragons and the highlights of the park - even if it's not identical to the itinerary here. A visit to Komodo is quite the adventure, so please do be prepared to embrace some level of uncertainty!
Q
What should I pack?
A
Ankle socks
Cash (up to IDR 500K per person) for Komodo National Park Ticket fees - this is paid directly to the park authorities on the islands
Dry bag for your electronic devices
Flip flops
Insect Repellent
Sunglasses and Hat
Sunscreen
Swimsuit
Towel
Trekking shoes or comfortable walking shoes
